Importing into an audio file

Question

Beginner using Audition. I can open an audio file and I would like to import 11 different MP3 files into it, rearrange them, etc. However, when I click on Import and select one of my MP3 files, it imports it to a new file on Audition, not the audio file I was trying to add stuff to. In short, I don't know how to create a file with multiple MP3 files in it.

You should be aware that all MP3 files are converted to wav files upon being opened in Audition - they have to be, as you cannnot edit MP3 files themselves very effectively, so they are converted to Audition's working format which is (uncompressed) wav files, which is the same thing that happens with all DAWs. If you don't mind this, then it's perfectly possible to open a string of them in Waveform view by using Open>Append and select Current. Then you can rearrange them, but be aware that to save the result as a new MP3 involves re-encoding, and there will inevitably be a slight degredation of quality in the final result. Do this half a dozen times, and the result will be unlistenable.

Alternatively use Multitrack view, which will do more or less what you want to achieve, but there's an extra stage involved in creating the new file, and all the same things about using MP3 files in general still apply. If you are going to try this, I suggest working your way through a few of the tutorials first might be a good idea.
