Insert files to multitrack not working?

I have 10 sequential wav files (apparently split by a Nagra VII upon export, otherwise recorded as single continuous stereo file) already imported into new multitrack session. None of the commands or buttons for adding to a track are working, individually or with all selected. What am I overlooking or misunderstanding? It appears I can drag them in, one at a time, so what is the purpose of the menu command and button? Also, can I drag them in simultaneously so that they appear sequentially in one track?

If you highlight the track in the Files list, the Insert into Multitrack will ungrey itself. If you have more than one file you want to add, then highlighting all of them will bring up an additional options box, asking you how you want them placed in the session.
