Laptop Recommendations 2019

Hey folks,

My laptop just kicked the bucket, and my head hurts from trying to figure out whether or not laptops on craigslist will work with the latest version of Audition. Can you recommend a cheap (looking for used @ sub $400) laptop that will do the trick?

Thank you very much and have a wonderful day.

I'd go on the other side of the coin and say that I love using Adobe Audition on macOS. Video editing is another story and I love custom build PCs for that but Steve is right in saying it's all personal opinion really and what you like the best.

If there's one thing to look at first (in my opinion) when it comes to high end audio editing it'd be the hard drives you're using. How fast are they and how many do you have. PC will give you more flexibility in this department for sure.

If it was me I'd build a PC with an awesome processor, lots of RAM and lots of NVMe drives that I can use as primary and secondary cache to edit at light speed. I also understand NVMe drives can help plugins to load up at lightning speed.

Well, we could give you direct recommendations - but then we'd be responsible if anything went wrong, wouldn't we? Doesn't mean we can't help though. For a start, you need to look at the Audition system requirements, which you will find here. Then I'll stick my neck out slightly and tell you to avoid Macs (my bias, based on personal experience, so not prejudice) and ideally get a Windows machine with an Intel processor. I'm only saying that because I know they work fine. AMD processors might too, if you see what I mean, but hey... and whatever you get, make sure that it supports the latest version of Windows.

FWIW I have Audition running fine on a HP ProBook with an i7 processor, and it's not that new now. Anything newer that meets the spec should cope fine.
