Question

Mixing Stereo Tracks

I want to combine 2 tracks by "adding" 60% of one track and 40% of the other.  The 2 tracks are of the same song but from different sources.  I want to end up with single stereo track which is the sum (60/40) of the 2.

How do I do this?

Assuming that they are mono tracks... the easiest way to do this is to open both tracks, and also start a new stereo track. At the right-hand end of the new track there are channel on-off controllers, (L and R) and you need to turn one of them off. Now if you go back to your original tracks, highlight the whole of the one you want in the unmuted channel, you can copy (Ctrl+C), switch back to your new stereo track and paste it into the highlighted channel. And swap everything over and do the same with the other channel. Now, using the channel on-off controls again, you can use the HUD volume control to adjust the relative levels until you have the result you desire. Then save the result.

So:

Original mono file - copied and pasted to half of new blank stereo file (muting controls ringed)

It's not the only way of doing this, by any means. It's just that all the others are, each in their own way, more complicated!

Thanks for your response.

They are stereo tracks.  I want to mix 2 stereo tracks into 1 stereo track.  The final stereo track would be 60% of the first and 40% of the 2nd.

In that case you don't need a new track to put them on. Open both tracks in Waveform view, go Ctrl+A on one of them to select the whole track, and go Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard. Open the second track, position the cursor at the start, and select Mix Paste (Ctrl+shift+V). Depending upon which file you copied you might need to alter the volume settings, but you need to set it up like this:
