MixPre-6 records but no sound on Playback in Audition

I've recently purchased a MixPre-6 recorder. I've got it working as an interface in Windows 10. Since the ASIO driver is unsigned, Microsoft tries to block it. I spoke to Sound Devices and they helped me turn off the Driver Signing requirement in Windows and so the driver works fine. Apparently, they have a new signed ASIO driver coming out in a few weeks.

Everything works fine. I can record all 4 inputs, as well as the stereo L and R channel, as well as the stereo mix. I monitor the recording through the headphone jack in the MixPre-6.

When I play the recorded tracks down in Audition, I can't hear any sound. I've tried to plug the headphones into the laptop as well but I also get no audio. I have selected the MixPre-6 as both the input and output devices in the Sound Settings in Windows 10. The microphone test works, but the speaker test does not - regardless of whether the headphones are plugged into the MixPre or the Laptop.

In Audition, the Hardware and mapping settings are also set to the MixPre.

Any idea what I might be missing? Thanks for your help with this.

I should be clear on this, I'm trying to use the MixPre in this case, as simply an interface and not a recorder. The recording process works great. I can hear the various channels in the headphones and make all the mix adjustments necessary. When I record in Audition CC on the computer the tracks all record perfectly. The problem only occurs when I try to playback the recorded tracks in Audition. There is no sound played through the headphones plugged into the MixPre.

I'm not sure if I need to set the mixpre to do one thing during recording and another during playback.

You may have to, but I don't think so - this is going to be an option to set up on the MixPre as to where the fed back channel outputs go to when they are fed to it from your PC. I'm as sure as I can be (without having one in front of me) that this is an Outputs option you need to be looking at on the MixPre. It is actually pretty clear on page 33 in the manual:

"To work with the USB audio from a host computer, it is necessary to route the

USB 1 - 4 sources appropriately. Should you want to mix the USB audio from

the host computer with live audio from the MixPre-6’s inputs to the LR bus, use

the channel screen and select input source (Advanced mode only). To hear the

USB host computer audio in the headphones only, switch the HP preset to USB

1,2 or USB 3,4."

I'm still having problems with this. I get a good waveform recoding. I just don't get sound coming out of the headphones plugged into my MixPre interface. I CAN hear the audio when recording, just not the playback. Any help is appreciated. Here are my audio settings:

I think that your choices are correct, but in the MixPre, you need to set up the headphone feed in the Outputs menu. Like all Sound Devices mixers, it's incredibly flexible. I don't have a MixPre 6, but I do have an original MixPre-D, and you definitely have to make a specific choice about what you can hear in the heaphone socket with that, so I can't imagine that it would be any different on yours.

Without actually having one in front of me, it's very hard to say - but it's worth noting carefully what it says at the bottom of page 35 in the online user manual about USB audio outputs...

Thanks Steve. I checked and I don't have it set to Stereo Out. It is in the Normal setting (the only other option).
