Question

Multiple Buses? CC

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to route channels through multiple buses?

I have all tracks running through Bus A which feeds my Virtual 1-2 in my UA console for my cues.

I'd like to route all the drums into a unique Bus for quick mixing.

When I try to add another Bus to a channel...there's only the option to select 1 Bus.

What am I missing?

THANKS!

It is true that you can only use one Bus for output routing. However the way around this to get different mixes in different Busses is to use the channel Sends. You can have up to sixteen of those with different levels sent to each either pre or post fader. So make as many new Bus tracks as you need and use Sends rather than Output routing.

But just to confuse things you can send a Bus to another Bus. So you could route all your drums to one Bus and then have another one for mixing your other tracks together with the output from the Drums Bus.

Ok, forgive me for being a newb…

    1. I created another Bus called Drums.

    2. I used the Sends for each of the Drum channels to send them to the Drum Bus.

But, when I attempt to turn the whole “drum sub” down…nothing happens.

Essentially…I want a way to add plugins to the Drum Bus and/or make complete drum mix changes with a single fader.

In this case you need to make sure that the drum tracks aren't also being sent direct to the master output. So drum tracks are sent only to the Drum bus and the output from is routed to the Master output. Or alternatively to route all the Drum tracks to the Drums bus via the track output routing and then route the Drum bus output to the Master. That way you can adjust the level of your drum mix with just the one Bus fader and apply effects to the Drum bus.

To see the typical track layout with busses try open a new session in Audition and use the Full Rock band template. That template includes separate busses for Drums, Bass, Guitar and Vocals with a couple set up for a Headphone monitor mix and separate Reverb.
