Multitrack Exported tracks too long

New Here ,

Hi all,

I am new to Adobe Audition, coming from Logic Pro. I'm recording audiobooks and each chapter gets its own track, instead of using one track for all chapters. Now, whenever I export all tracks from the multitrack session, the file length of each file is as long as the longest track, although individual tracks are often much shorter, of course. So far, I've read, that this is because Audition exports a mixdown. I don't know this issue from Logic.

Since I couldn't find an answer yet: Is there really no way to export tracks from a multitrack session as individual files in a row with their actual length instead of the length of the longest track? For the moment, my "workaround" is, to export the tracks one after another as clips. But that's really kind of time-consuming ...

I hope, I was able to describe my little problem and I appreciate all answers on that matter. Thanks in advance to everyone!

Cheers

Martin

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any way of doing what you describe. You're sort-of right about the reason; it's all to do with exporting individual tracks that will line up in another session somewhere else, so the timings always relate to the session, rather than the individual tracks.

What people tend to do in situations like this is simply to export all the files at session length and knock the empty bits off in Waveform view. This is almost certainly going to be quicker to do than exporting a string of clips - it's a few seconds on each one, generally.

Hi Steve,

thank you so much for your reply. Quite unfortunate, that something like an "easy export option" is not yet implemented. Though I do hope, that this will be added in the future.

One thought concerning your work around: When I export all tracks at session length, files are a already generated. Wouldn't I have to export the files again when editing them after the track export in the waveform view and then delete the exported files from the multitrack export? Sounds a little complicated, but I hope you know what I mean 🙂

If I've understood what you mean (!), then No.  Simply saving (Ctrl+S) the changed files from Waveform will overwrite the previously-exported versions. (Audition may well ask if you wish to overwrite the existing version.)  "Save as" will allow you to enter a new name and thus save both versions.

Hi Emmrecs,

fantastic! I just reproduced Steves and your workflow and it worked wonderfully. Thank you so much for your help, even if this workflow seems a bit more complicated than in Logic.
