Question

Multitrack playback halts after a few seconds

I am at my wits end trying to solve this problem, I feel like I've troubleshot everything I can think of and nothing works.  When working in multitrack, I hit play and the tracks play for a few seconds and then cut to silence completely. The playhead continues moving, but no sound or waveforms are generated. Video of the error here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5z8ndShZuQ

Things I have tried that have not worked:

  • Restarted Audition
  • Restarted the entire computer
  • Moved project and source files from an external drive to internal SSD
  • Changed audio output devices (from wired headphones to wireless headset)
  • Changed the latency setting in the Audio Hardware menu
  • Toggled Hardware Acceleration on and off (and restarted)
  • Pre-rendered tracks
  • Cleared media caches
  • Toggled effects on and off
  • Changed RAM available to Audition from 50 GB to 58 GB (max allotment)

This is a high-end PC that I use for both gaming and intensive editing in Premiere and other Adobe products, I cannot fathom why two tracks in Audition would overload it like this.

Specs:

No matter what I do, I cannot get the tracks to play for longer than 5 seconds like this. They always cut out, even though I only have two tracks here. If anyone has any ideas of what I can do, please help! I'm at a loss, I really don't know what else to even try that would cause this, but it makes Audition entirely unusable.

If you take your two files into a new session, does the same thing still happen?

This has happened across several sessions, with various degrees of halting. Sometimes it's only one track that cuts out (usually the backing music), while the other continues playing, but eventually the problem seems to always get worse to the point where everything cuts.
