Multitrack Recording with Audition

I'd like to try and use Audition to setup and do live recordings
to my laptop when there's a sound board that will accommodate it.
Is there a tutorial, or link that will guide me through that?  I don't
want to have to learn through mistakes.

This might be a slightly better tutorial Multitrack Recording & Mixing Basics in Adobe Audition for the Mac - YouTube . It is by Jason Levine one of the Adobe Audition team experts. Although it shows settings for a Mac Windows will be very similar.

However how you record exactly depends on what the mixing board that you have access to can provide you with. If you want to record lots of tracks simultaneously then you need a mixer with a multichannel USB built in. Normally they only provide a basic

   This might be it, or at least in the ballpark.
  It doesn't describe connecting to another recording device.
