My Adobe Audition just reset itself to default without me want to

I just opened my adobe audition 2024 and everything had be reset to default settings. All the custom presets in my effects rack have disappeared, all the shortcuts have disappeared, my layout has changed. I didn't want this and I haven't done anything recently to make this happen.

Is there a way I can restore it back to a previous state? This is beyond frustrating if I can't, since I would be losing a lot of stuff.

did you recently update?

if so, there's an option to replace settings that you need to unselect an a major version update.

i didn't do any update recently. However, I just spoke to adobe support and they had me update from 24 to 25 and the problem is still there.

i don't know anything, other than a major update, that could cause a settings change.

But I do... leaning (even accidentally) on the Shift key whilst opening Audition does exactly that...

@SteveG_AudioMasters_

really?  don't you get a confirmation warning to prevent an accidental reset?

Definitely back up your settings and preferences - the shift key startup trick has been there almost forever, incidentally. Just put 'Adobe Audition shift key startup' into Google and you'll see what i mean.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
