My Audio Goes All Over The Place

So, in order to describe this as best as I can, I may be using a few metaphors. So please bear with me.

 

In Audition CC, I have recorded my audio through Audition, and I am currently working on the multitrack section.

 

Whenever I start playing the audio, there will be distortion that the sound will bounce back and forth between both the left and right speaker in strength, and when replaying the same portion of the audio, the distortion may disappear.

 

Let us call this effect something akin to debris in a glass of water. When you shake it, sometimes it will be on this side of the glass, sometimes it will be on that side, but there will be enough distortion that it will not settle on a position, but instead pop up from time to time.

 

Fun, right? But I thought to myself that if it is inconsistent, it may just be my speakers acting up for whatever reason. This had not happened before, but I could not leave it out of the question, so I kept working.

 

Eventually, I wanted to share my progress with some friends, so I sent .mp3 (and later .wav files) to them in order to get feedback. When I heard back from them, I found the responses were speaking of this same distortion I had heard. Except, when played back, the distortion was in the same location, almost as if by saving the file, those particles in the water were frozen in place, like a frozen glass with the debris set in stone.

 

Is there anything I can do to affect my audio and avoid having to use separate software? I love the layout on this, and would hate to try and use different software.

Probably need to know a bit more about your setup eg preamp, microphone, etc

It is unlikely to be Audition but rather something in your setup or signal path.

I assume you are recording in mono so once you have recorded the track open it up in the edit page and have a listen - is it distorted?

If so, try lowering your input gain and try again

The concern I have with this, however, is that replay in the Audition software, the issue will be there at one point, and then it won't be. So it is never consistent where it will dip and when, as well as the level bars are unaffected below. Only when I export it do the distortions stay in place, like with my water in ice example. However, in case the error is still consistent with this, I will provide all the information I can.

 

The Audio Hardware is:

Device Class: MME

Default Input: Focusrite USB (Focusrite USB Audio) ----I am using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 with a splitter between the two channels

Default Output: WDS0UT4490 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio) ---- I have my computer set up to my television, which are connected to my Taotronic Speaker sound Bar

 

Master Clock: Out: WD50UT4490 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)

 

Latency: 200 ms

 

Latency: 200 ms

 

File Channels

Input:

1 [L] Focusrite USB (Focusrite USB Audio) 1

2 [R] Focusrite USB (Focusrite USB Audio) 2

 

Output:

1 [L] WD50UT4490 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio) 1

I would also like to note that the input gain did not quite effect it too much. Same issues eventually, as it pops up at random. The same was tested through Audacity, without the same problems.
