Opening Webex-generated mp4 in Audition: audio tinny and choppy

I conducted an interview recently via Webex, and the recording Webex provides is an mp4 format file.

I can easily open the file in Audition and play it, but compared to playing it in Quicktime, the audio is really tinny; and playback in Audition is choppy, even though I'm on a prett beefy Macbook Pro with most other applications closed.

I only care about the audio and not the video, and plan on turning this in into a podcast. What's the best way to extract only the audio portion of an mp4 file? How do I get it to sound as good as it does in Quicktime?

Solution I found: I opened the Webex mp4 file in Premiere Pro, did Export -> Media and choose Waveform, and saved the file.

I then opened the new WAV file in Audition, and the audio quality was perfect.

I don't think it's made it to the current release yet, but the beta version of Audition (available on the CC app) apparently has a new higher-resolution MP4 decoder in it. Give that a try!

I have read elsewhere that one should open the file in Premier Pro first and save as Audio Only, I am going to try that and report back.
