overwrite vs insert indicator - how to tell without right-clicking record button?

I often change between overwrite mode and insert mode when I am recording or editing voice.

I often forget which mode I have most recently entered - and find myself overwriting when I intend to insert and vice versa. 

Is there some way to tell which mode I am in without right-clicking the record icon?

Not that I'm aware of, I'm afraid. I leave it permanently in Insert, and if I ever set it to Override, I put it back immediately I've finished. You lose less stuff that way!

And the only way to know if it is in insert or override mode is to right-click on the record button. Sad.
