placing markers at specified lengths of silence

Any help would be appreciated. I am totally new to Audition (migrating from Magix Sound Forge).

I need to be able:

(1) to detect silences of specified length (such as 2.5 to 5 seconds of silence).

(2) place markers at each of these points.

(3) output segments between markers as separate MP3 files.

If this can be done by scripting or batch processing, it would be much appreciated to know how.

(I have searched on the word "silence" but been unable to find detailed instructions on how to do this.)

Searching for silence is very likely to result in locating an effect called 'silence'... 😉

 

What you need to look at is Diagnostics. It doesn't work quite the way you specified, but you should be able to achieve a suitable outcome. In Diagnostics, select the effect Mark Audio, and in the presets, select Mark Non-Silent Areas. If you then go down to the Definitions box and click on 'Find Levels', the software will make a reasonable stab at setting the appropriate detection levels, although that isn't absolutely guaranteed - you may need to alter the settings it chooses. It will find starts reasonably well, but you may wish to lengthen the durations. Then click on 'Scan' and it will run a detection pass. Now if you click on 'Mark All' it will mark all of the audio sections as cue ranges. If you now open the Markers list, you'll find all of your marked ranges listed, and you can re-name each one to something more appropriate if you want. At the top of the markers list  you'll find an option in the little symbols (second from the right) to batch-export the range markers in whatever format you want, and to wherever you want them put.
