When I commence playback, either through the key command on the bluetooth keyboard, the onboard key on the laptop, or on the 'play' button on the app interface, I get a loud pop. Every time.
To reiterate, every time I begin playback there is always a loud pop.

It sounds like there might be something left in the buffer.
I know you said 'every time' but to clarify, does this happen the very first time you hit play?
Does it happen in both Multitrack and Wavform views?
Does it happen if you just drag a sound file into the multitrack? If so is the audio file the same sample rate as the session sample rate?
What audio interface are you using?
What version of Audition?
Mac or PC?
Any other info you can add?

Got it!
I was have iZotope plugins loaded. One of the effects was accidentally loaded onto the rack in the multitrack session. Removed it and the pop went away!
