Previously with old versions of Audition.. and with Cool Edit Pro, you could choose to preview audio without opening it within Audition. When you "Open File", within that pop-up was a box you could check-mark that would let you hear the audio before opening it. It was fast and far, far easier than right-clicking on the file and opening with some other player first. You just clicked on the file once (didn't open) and it could be heard. Please tell me that somewhere the option to do this still exists! It's a time waster when you have to open a file to hear it (if you aren't sure it's the one you want to use!).
This is especially useful with multi-tracking when you are working with dozens of files and not sure which one is right for what you need.
Appreciate any help!
Dan

You still have the Autoplay option available in both the File and Media Browser windows. Just click on the Speaker icon to turn it on in either panel.

Surely that isn't anything to do with Audition but depends on your Windows operating system. However Audition now has it's own built in Media Browser which will allow you to do that. Go to the Window menu in Audition and activate the Media Browser.

Thanks. No. Not quite what I'm talking about. Previous editions of Audition (and Cool Edit) allowed you to go to the upper left corner, "File", then "Open". Within the window was a box you could check or un-check saying "preview audio" (or something to that affect). Then upon highlighting the file (prior to inserting), the file audio would automatically play. This allowed the user to be certain this was the audio they wanted to use (to preview the audio). If they wanted that audio, they could click "open" or just double-click on that file and it would be opened into the audition wave editor or into the multi-track file. This was a real time saver and really was an awesome feature. Going to the media browser takes up more of the screen space (which I prefer to use on my editing window) and still requires a "click to play". If they'd just put that check-mark box back in the file section and the Media Browser to "play upon highlight", you could just arrow down from file to file and instantly hear them (like it used to be!) without having to add steps.
I can't believe this very useful feature may have been deleted and still hoping it's just some option I've missed somewhere.
Appreciate your thought on the media browser though.

So...I have the same issue in Adobe CC2020. How do you make it work? I have the "speaker icon" selected in multi-track but it still doesn't let you audition something BEFORE importing. I need this feature really bad! Any help would be appreciated!

See answer in other thread - one is sufficient.
