ive got some annoying music coming from an iPhone stereo speaker that was positioned at 45-50 degrees from the camera that almost drowns out some quiet chat and whispering where the camera is pointing at

you can just about make out what is being said apart from a couple of instances.

ive got access to audition 3.0 and cs5.5

I tried to remove all the left hand side in spectoral pan but it reduced the whispering as well

didn't mess with presets and don't really know what im doing

any pointers/help much appreciated

thanks

alan

spectral pan so you can "see" the audio where it comes from in relation to the mic. spacially?

Adobe Audition 3.0: Spectral Pan and Spectral Phase Display Tutorial - YouTube

using that I should be able to remove some audio that cam at the mic from 45 degrees - like my music, and leave the audio that came from the front direction

but I cant fathom it out

I haven't tried removing the channels in prem pro yet ….

OK You meant the Spectral Pan Display. Not quite the same as a Spectral panner. First of all I don't believe that that can work with 6 channel audio file, it's only meant for basic stereo use AFAIAA since anyway AA3 can't open multichannel audio files into a single waveform unlike later versions of Audition.

How was the original audio recorded? What sort of mic did you use?

The best tool for this sort of thing if the audio is recorded in stereo is the Centre Channel Extraction tool. This might work with sort tweaking and experimenting. But, unfortunately, I don't think that there will be any way of completely removing the unwanted sound in this case.

    actually its recorder in 5.1

in prem pro I can see the 5 channels all independent of each other

does that make a difference? how about spectral pan in audition 3.0?

Not quite sure what you mean by 'spectral pan' in AA3? AA3 isn't ideal for processing surround mixes since it was released before 5.1 production became universal. When you open the files in AA3 in the Waveform Edit view can you see all the channels individually? If so (or in Premiere) can you isolate the channel/channels where the unwanted audio appears and reduce the level of them? Where does the wanted dialogue appear in the 5.1 channels?

However it is still unlikely that you will be able to remove the unwanted music without affecting the wanted dialogue. The only real way is to have avoided this happening at source and used a mono mic on the voices and record them separately with only a 5.1 recording from the camera as background.
