Question

Save often used clips in projects in clipboard or similar

Hi!

When I'm editing af project I often have little clips I use often in the same project. It could be a part with clean sound or similar.

Can I somehow put these clips in a clipboard or the like, so I can always just drag the clips from there instead of having to find a place in the project where the clip has been used, and then having to manually mark, copy and paste the clip to a new place?

Best,

Morten

In any one session with Audition, you have five clipboards available to you (This is in the Edit menu):

The idea is that you select a clipboard, and copy whatever audio you want to it. It stays there for the duration of your session. So you can copy something to clipboard 1, go to clipboard 2 and store something else, and if you go back to clipboard 1, what you stored is still there. Same applies to the other clipboards, obviously. If you close Audition, they are all cleared, just as any other clipboard would be. If you feel that you might want to use the same clips again, then you have to go through the process of pasting them to a new file and re-creating them. That's actually quite straightforward, as you can use File>Open Append>To current and store all of them in a single file rather than a separate one for each.

So, to use any given clipboard, first select it (Ctrl+{number}) then with the cursor where you want it, use Ctrl+V to paste it. Once you've got it set up, it's dead easy to use - no fiddling about required.

Hi Steve.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Yeah, I know the multiple clipboard feature. But as I understand it only works in Waveform view and not in Multitrack view. Is it possible to select a clip in Multitrack view and put it in a clipboard for multiple use in the edit process?

Morten

Not in Multitrack, no. You have to bear in mind that everything you see in Multrack view isn't real audio - clips are just a way of representing the audio in an actual file; essentially, Multitrack view is just a giant, pretty sophisticated file player. Anything stored in a clipboard is 'real' audio, and as such you can't paste it directly into a multitrack session.

It's not all bad though. If you create individual files for each bit of audio you want to place,, then you can open these up in the Multitrack files list - and there's no limit to the amount of times you can place them in a session. You can even extend them by looping if you want. This effectively gets around most of the issues, even though you have to get used to it.
