Shortcut customization in Audition 2017

Has anyone found out how to change the default keyboard shortcuts in Audition 2017?  I just called Adobe Technical help line and even they don't know!  The man asked me to ask the Forum.    I'm on Windows and want to use the old shortcuts I had on good ol' Audition 1.5, so to toggle Record..CTL + SPACEBAR.   The instructions (pasted below) don't make sense.  Where exactly do I click?  What is this "Shortcuts For Command" menu?  Where is the "Press Shortcut" box?  If it's the little blue box, once you clear the old shortcut, you press the keys you need and nothing happens.  Please help as I'm a VO using these fast shortcuts all day.  THANKS!

THIS IS WHAT IS SAYS ON THE HELP SHEET:

  • Choose Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.

  • In the Command column, select the command you want to customize.

  • If you want to replace or remove an existing shortcut, choose it from the Shortcuts For Command menu.

  • Do any of the following:

    • To create a shortcut, click inside the Press Shortcut box, and press the desired key combination. Then click Assign.
    • To remove a shortcut, click Remove.

    If you enter a key combination that’s already in use, Audition displays an alert. Click Yes to transfer the shortcut to a different command, or No to retain the existing assignment.

Note:

Assign shortcuts to the Workspace commands to quickly switch between custom panel layouts.

    In case you haven't found the present default for Record is Shift+Space. However, although you can re-assign the Record command to another selection of keys, Audition doesn't accept the Spacebar as an entry into the Shortcut field unfortunately.

    The instructions for re-assigning Keyboard Shortcuts are more or less correct. So to answer your queries about accessing them you first open Keyboard Shortcuts from the Edit menu. Then you go down the list to the Transport entry and press the twirl down icon (right facing arrow) to uncover the list of Transport commands that you can set shortcuts for. Then go down the list to find the command that you require and double click on the shortcut which should turn blue. Then you can press the key selection that you wish to change to or Add to a command that does not yet have a shortcut assigned.

    I still don't find the Adobe instruction, nor the "Answered" instructions to be very helpful. I spend a long time looking for this and it just isn't intuitive. You actually have to click and drag the key on top of the shortcut that you want to use. The clicking and dragging aspect is not stated anywhere.       Well I've never done it that way. I usually just find the command that I want to assign a keyboard shortcut to in the Command list and click in the Shortcut column. The when the blue surround box appears I just press the keyboard keys that I want assigned to the shortcut. They appear in the box and that is it, done. That is how it was always done before the graphic keyboard option appeared is still works exactly the same as it did.

      Interesting, I clicked and pressed the buttons in every way I could think of and could not get it to work until I dragged the key to the shortcut. I am using Windows 10. Are you using a Mac?

      Thanks very much to you both, I am now sorted. Very strange you can't re-assign any Space bar control..it's a key isn't it?  It now works doing the other major fix it I need that is CTL+N makes a new wave file window not a new Multitrack.  Plus others I need for fast voiceover recording editing and saving.  Thanks very much indeed.       I don't think you can re-assign any control involving the space bar...
