Shortcut to select between in and out for ripple delete?

For long voice recordings, I would like to use keyboard shortcuts to quickly finish my edits. However, after I set my in and out points, I cannot use the shortcut for Ripple Delete (alt + backspace) until I click on the area between the in and out points with my mouse to select it. Is there anyway to select the area between the in and out points without clicking on it with my mouse? I tried searching for this shortcut and also looking into the Keyboard Shortcuts but cannot seem to figure it out. If anyone knows I would appreciate learning this feature. Thank you!

No, you can't do that, I'm afraid. You have to be able to define an area to select before you can do anything with it, and in a situation where you have more than one marker range available you need some way of selecting the one you want.

 

That said, if you are editing for continuity in Multitrack then the easiest way of making selections is to swipe the area you think you want to delete, and hit F8. This will automatically create a marker range of that selection, and it is highlighted - so you can immediately ripple-delete the time selection. Also you can test the result before committing to it by using the Skip Selection tool at the RH end of the transport controls. If you need to alter the selection, you can drag each end of it in the timeline, and it will remain highlighted.

Hey Steve, thanks again for answering another question. I see that I can use your method of hitting the F8 key to put markers around the in and out points and then I am able to use the Alt+Backspace for the ripple delete. But the other problem I am encountering now is that Audition first allows me to use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Backspac once at the beginning with only an In and Out point but it won't let me use this shortcut again. It is the same with turning the In and Out point into markers with the F8 key and then the Alt+Backspace. It will let me do it once and then it won't work anymore. Is this a bug or am I not understanding something correctly?

Seems to work fine here. But strictly speaking, you don't need to mark the selection to use ripple delete - just make the selection and use Alt+backspace. You'll probably find that this works fine, and also that what Audition was trying to ripple-delete wasn't quite what you thought - more likely to be an entry in the marker list that wasn't what you'd got selected. I don't think it's a bug...
