Tascam US 16x08 and audition 3.0 faders not responding

Hello clever people just wondering if anyone out there can help with a problem we are having recording audio...

we are using a tascam US 16x08 audio interface with adobe audition 3.0 running on a PC (windows 10)

we have four mics going into 4xLR inputs on front panels

The mixer window level meters respond to inputs and playback but other controls such as faders, mute and solo button have no effect on either playback or record (including the master control) why????

I suspect it is all down to how you have your ins and outs routed and where and how you are monitoring the output of Audition. If you look at the meters on the Master channel in the Mixer screen do the audio levels show there when playing back and are affected by the Track Mute. Solo or fader levels? What do you have selected as the Output for the Master track?
