Trouble exporting to mp3 320 kbps

I'm recording a radio show on my computer which I have to send to the radio station as an 320 kbps mp3 file. So far so good.

The problem is that when I want to export the multitrack session through the export/multitrack/full session window (with mp3 320 kbps properly selected), what I get is a 192 kbps file. And the guy at the station is not happy. the funny thing is that when the file opens in Audition after exporting, it says 320 kbps. when I look at it in explorer, it says 192 kbps, and the file is 86 Mb when it should be 145...

I tried to export through Media Encoder, but it's even worse, there's no 320 kbps option as it stops at 256...

I solved the problem temporarily by exporting to .wav and then converting to 320 kbps mp3 in Audacity but 1/ it's slightly tedious and 2/I'd like Audition (and Media Encoder) to handle it properly.

any idea what the problem might be?

One thing I have noticed about MP3 exports in Multitrack (and I don't know why it does this - it's really a bug) is that if you set the rate to 320kbps and then click on anything else in the export panel, and then return to the main panel, the rate automatically jumps back to 192kbps without you necessarily realising it. And that's exactly what you get - a 192k export. Once you've realised that this happens, you know that you have to change it back again, as the last thing before exporting. If you do this, it exports fine at 320k. Just to make sure, I tried it on the current release and it works fine (albeit with that annoying reset).

Can you try checking this first? I'm going to log it as a bug, anyway.

I just tried this but the result is the same. and the setting doesn't revert to 192 k, as 320 k is always the displayed setting (it"s already set when I open the export panel, actually, as it keeps the last setting I used). But it will export as 192 k anyway.

Well, let's see what happens when you log it for bug correction (while you're at it, you might want to suggest the addition of the 320 k setting in Media Converter, it could prove useful... 😄 )

thanks for your help anyway.

If you look at the file's properties by right-clicking on it and selecting the Details tab, what does it say the bit rate is there?

Can you confirm that if, as a last step in exporting, you reset the MP3 settings to look like this:

mp3 setting.JPG

That the export happens and is reported in the properties, as mentioned above, as 192kbps?

No such thing as Media Converter - I presume you meant Media Encoder... 😉

1/ the resulting file, you mean? it says 192 kbps (I had seen 320 before, as I said in my first message, but maybe I got something wrong. right now, it says 192)

2/ Yes

3/ Yes, of course, Media Encoder... 😄
