If I set up a multitrack recording and use the audiobook template, does that template automatically preset the settings needed for an audiobook?  Or do I still need to go in and make changes to all the settings to get the proper sound for an audiobook?

Er, Audition doesn't have an audiobook template... (and if you mean the podcast one, then don't touch it - it's completely unworkable, as a lot of ab initio podcasters have discovered to their costs.)

But even if it did have one, it couldn't be 'correct' because everybody's recording setups are different. As are the requirements of the audiobook companies. But all templates are the same in one sense, and that's the important thing to remember about them - they are only ever a starting point; there's nothing definitive about them at all.
