Hi, When I try to launch my Adobe Audition I get a box that states "Adobe Audition could not find a supported audio device. Please check your device settings." I am a bit computer ignorant. What does this mean and how do I handle it?
Much thanks, Marc

When you ask a question you need to provide some basic information

Mac or Windows, and EXACTLY which version of the operating system?
Recent Mac AND Windows operating systems have been known to cause "odd" problems
Are you using a computer Administrator account with full read/write permission?
Exactly which version of the program do you have that is causing problems?
What IS your audio hardware?

Basically it means that Audition isn't set up correctly to use whatever audio interfaces are available on your computer. So first you need to go to your computer's audio setup to make sure that you have a working audio interface and that it can play audio from other software. Then you need to go to Audition/Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware to select and configure the audio output. But, as John asks, we need to know a lot more about your computer before being able to give any further assistance.

Thanks for helping. I have a Dell PC Windows 10. Don’t want to be too dumb but what do you mean by audio hardware? The computer has Media Suite. Part of the problem is that this computer is deliberately not connected to the internet. I only use the Dell for working on copying old recordings, reel-to-reels, cassettes etc. to Audition then burning them onto CDs. I use my Mac for everything else.
Does this help?
Thanks again, Marc

Two things: Audio hardware is simply your sound device - whatever makes a noise on your computer. The second thing is that as your computer deliberately isn't connected to the internet, what version of Audition are you running? Makes a difference to what the path to your sound device is.

Thanks for taking this up. This version of Audition 2.0 was running OK with about a week several left, then just got the warning and can’t get passed it.

Ah, Audition 2. That does make a difference. I don't have it installed on anything any more, but for reasons we won't go into here, I have a copy of the official manual, and the Focal Easy Guide to it, and that has the necessary basic information, at least.
You need to go to Edit>Audio Hardware setup, and there you have to choose whether it's Edit view or Multitrack view you are setting up, by choosing the appropriate tab at the top. There you should be able to select an audio driver, and this should show you, in the boxes below, whether there is appropriate hardware available that can use it. Since Audition 2 is now many versions old, there's no saying what will or won't work - if you're using a modern OS with it, then all sorts of strange things could happen, and you may never get it to work properly.
If you get nowhere, there is potentially something you can do as an alternative, but try the above first.

Thanks again, your help was invaluable. I swathed around my audio input connections and the program came back to life. Much thanks, Marc
