I don't think that it has any significance other than showing where the -infinity level is, no.

I'm pretty sure that's a 'missing samples' indication - implying that your clip is not contiguous in terms of having valid samples in it. If you look at the waveform carefully and magnify it at the places where the red line stops briefly, what do you see?

You may need to zoom in more than that... it would only take a single missing sample.

This is a max magnification:

These audio files play fine. I don't see any troubles with them.

Okay, two things: Firstly, I checked a bit further - it's not missing samples, but actually the centre line of the audio waveform, and you'll see it anywhere where the waveform is consistently above or below zero, and the waveform itself doesn't cover it up in the view - which is what would happen most of the time, as the waveform line is somewhat thicker.

The second thing is that you can zoom in way more than that in Multitrack, and that's how you actually get to see what's happening - at sample level. All you have to do is click on the waveform you want to magnify, hold the Ctrl key down and use the scroll button on your mouse. Here is what you can see with a typical waveform in multitrack view:

This is what I've started with, and the red ring is the bit I'm going to enlarge:

This is the enlarged view, sufficient to show the red line:

Those dots are individual sample positions, and the red centre line is only visible as a background layer.

This is the maximum you can zoom to - just a few samples on the screen:

I see the same after max zooming in a single track mode. Does it mean that red line shows nothing special?
