Playback Issue in Multitrack (Audition CC)

I've used audition for many years and feel like I have a pretty good working understanding of the program, but have just stumbled into a bit of a puzzler.

I have two issues in playback. The first involves the degradation of individual tracks. Basically, I am importing midi files into Reason, exporting those as wav files and inserting them into my multitrack view in Audition CC. For some reason (after many years of doing this), if I return to the multitrack session hours or days later, the waveform sounds terrible and distorted in both multitrack and individual track playback. If I delete the file from the mutitrack session and re-insert it, it comes out just fine, but eventually it will end up distorted. This only happens to tracks exported as wavs from Reason and not to tracks that are recorded live. It happens regardless of whether i shut the program down and restart it or leave it open. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Any solutions?

Second issue is specific to playback in mutitrack. Suddenly, Playback will not play in stereo. I can pan everything to one side or the other and see that reflected in the monitors during playback, but the sound from the headphones has everything dead center. It isn't the headphones, i tested those on another system and can hear stereo. It isn't the laptop, as I can hear stereo on tracks not in audition. I've un-installed and reinstalled a couple times no, but to no avail. 0I'm hoping i just flipped a switch or something and didn't notice- but if anyone has run across this issue?

Unfortunately in that case it is likely to be a problem with Windows trying to take over your built in soundcard to play some audio of it's own and changing various settings that are then causing distorted playback or changes to the audio output of the PC. The probable only way around this is to get yourself a decent external USB audio interface which uses ASIO audio drivers. These then completely bypass any effect that Windows can have on your audio and should allow you to maintain even better audio quality.

So I messed around with stuff last night again, and isn't it always some silly detail? The files I were importing from Reason to Audition were being converted to a sample rate of 48000, and I had playback set for 41,000.

Now I just need to figure out the stereo playback.

I had the same issue few months ago, the problem was so inconsistent that it drive me mad. After updating my audio card (Babyface Pro) the issue was solved.

    Hope this can help you.

We really need to know quite a bit more about your computer in order to be able to provide much in way of an answer. What audio interface are you using and which type of audio drivers and on what operating system?
