I suspect there is an easy fix for this, I just don't know it.
Up until a few minutes ago I would highlight a selction, hit the space bar and it would play that selection and stop (side note: is there a way to repeat that section as it would only play it back once?)
But now, suddenly I highlight a section, press the space bar, and it starts at the beginning of the selection but doesn't stop at the end, it just keeps going. I feel like I accidentally turned that off and don't know how to reset it?
I can use CTRL-L and it rapidly replays it over and over, but that's all I have found so far.

You can right-click on the Play button and select an option to return the play head to the start position. All of the other options to do with Playing (and there are several) are to be found in Edit>Preferences>Playback and Recording.

Aha, that's it! Within the Playback and Recording Preferences the box that says "When playback starts within a selected region, stop at the end of the selection" got unchecked somehow! That part is a mystery but it's all fixed now!
The tip about right-clicking on the Play button is also useful!
Thanks Steve!!
