Hi, I've been having an issue with the Bridge batch renaming for a few days and don't know how to solve it. Since I'm on a roadtrip for a few weeks it really bothers me that I can't get this right with all the pictures that I'm taking these days. The images are renamed in reversed chronological order, that is : the last picture is renamed number _001 and the first (for instance) number _752. It would be great if someone knew how to fix this. Many thanks in advance.

Bridge uses the sort order of the selected files for batch renaming. View the files in the required order and then rename. Also make use of the preview button to double check the result of renaming multiple files. Good luck!

Hi Stephen,
I have a similar challenge. I've digitised many 35mm negative films and I'm using Bridge to rename them and roughly date them for managing them from now on. Some film cameras would wind a film to the end first then wind it back onto its spool as photos were taken, the reverse of how it would normally happen. When digitising, I've done it in the sequence shown on the negative i.e. 1-24, 1-36 etc.. However, I need to reverse this when renaming the digitised files to correct the sequencing. This is a long winded way of asking whether what you have said is that Bridge renames in the order you see the files listed on screen?

You can preserve the current filename as metadata in the files when batch renaming, work on duplicates etc. Easy to test and recover if things don't go to plan with the sort order.

Thank you. I'll try that.

Hi, I've tried sorting the files so that they display on screen in the order I want to rename them, i.e. 24 at the top down to 1 at the bottom, which I want to rename as 1-24 so 24 becomes 1, 23 becomes 2 etc. However, it still renames in the pre-existing order. I've tried doing this on the JPGs created after inverting and cropping the negatives and, after no success there, then on the original RAW captures but all to no avail. I'm sure there must be a way but it's not obvious.

It works OK for me both before in the preview and after renaming (in rare cases the preview isn't the same as the actual result):
