Bridge 2023 - manual sorting does not work. please help

Guest

my files are labeled sequentially.  1, 2, 3, 4

I have it set to 'sort manually'

however, when I move a group of files (1,2,3,4) to another spot,

they automatically switch to 4,3,2,1

If I move it back to the orig location, it goes back to 1,2,3,4

In addition, the window of files will "jump" a row so it's confusing to look for the location you were at. (hope that's clear)

This is completely frustrating when i'm looking at a folder with 600 files, manually sorting them.

Please help. This happened because of this update I did not ask for.

It's now impossible for me to go back to the old Bridge 😞

Also having trouble with Manual Sorting in Bridge 2023. Some folders were manually sorted in Bridge 2022 and when opened in Bridge 2023 they revert to a filename sort even if set to Sort Manually. Reverted to Bridge 2022 for now but this is not optimal.

Here's a simple example of my issue (which may not be the same as James27016626srdd):

Bridge 2022 Manually sorted:

Same Folder opened in Bridge 2023 - ignores my manual sort and does a filename sort:

This looks similar. I believe this is bad programming of Bridge 2023.  You're lucky you can revert to the old Bridge! I'm stuck!

I also notice if I scroll through fullscreen (select file, space bar) and then go back (space bar again), it has selected the TWO files I started and stopped at, instead of just selecting where I stopped.  Again, yet another annoyance and extra step to make sure you deselect.

It's incredibly frustrating and virtually unusable for me because it threatens to destroy the order of manually arranging files if you simply move a few.

Sadly, since Bridge v. 1, Custom Sorting has always been sketchy (at best). Part of the problem is that there is no saved database for Bridge to store anything that knows what the Custom Sort is.

The only way I've found around this issue is that once you have a folder of images sorted the way you want, rename the entire folder of images to lock in the sort order by name.

Even more sad, despite the fact that Lightroom Classic does have a database to maintain a custom order, it's also rather flaky. So even in that I resort to renaming the files to keep a custom sort.

Good luck
