Bridge CS4 and Web Gallery upload - blank page issue

Guest
Dec 30, 2008 Dec 30, 2008
hello,

you guys have any clue what is wrong here..

I created a web gallery using Bridge CS4 but the uploaded files came out blank. When I use Bridge CS3 to create and upload my web gallery it is okay.

When I view the HTML file locally, it loads fine. it is only when I upload the file to the server that creates this blank page issue.

Do you have dreamweaver? If you do, then problem solved. If you don't then I don't know how to do it. Fetch won't work.

Once I uploaded the gallery using Dreamweaver CS4 the problem is no longer present. Fetch wont do.

that's correct - had the exact same issue - I tried to change the permissions using Fetch, to no avail. Tried a few different uploads with test flash galleries using Fetch and Cyberduck. All these ended showing blank page result... I tried through Bridge CS4 after running all updates and verifying disk permissions (disk utility) This was done from a G5 and then from my old PowerBook G4. Same blank output. So I saved everything in a file and uploaded it through Dreamweaver...right on it worked beautifully.

Thanks to all for your input and your help on this forum.

Have a nice life!

Hehehe…  you'd almost think they want you to buy Dreamweaver.

I don't think that Dreamweaver is required.  Any website software

should work.

I am sure Adobe will fix this as it should be possible to upload galleries right from Bridge. I am sure there are currently many other ways around this, other softwares, ftp, I hear for some Bridge worked.

I see the positive side of life you know. Bridge is still really useful form e even if this feature if off for now. And I learned something in Dreamweaver too so what can I ask more.

Thank you all, have a nice life, do great work and take some time off the computer too!

Don't try to upload from the Bridge. Check "Save to Disk", and create a file in the root folder of your website.  Save the Gallery there.  Next, create a link from your website's "Index" page (or wherever you want it), and have this link point to the "index" in the folder you created. I select "blank" in the Target  box in Dreamweaver's Properties Manager.

Upload the Web Gallery folder to your server.  When you click on the link (in my case, the main site's Index page), the Web Gallery opens in a new window.

More clowning from Adobe in CS4, a release that should put the leaders of this so-called software company in the breadlines yesterday...

I cant believe how much buggy garbage there in is these applications...I know how to upload my folders directly through fetch and how to link. I have thousands of links both straight HTML and from inside of flash frontpages.  Never have I had this problem before.  I guess Adobe thinks its cool to release whatever they feel like, regardless of the standards of host servers, which I admit knowing little about. Checked the set permissions in FEtch, ands its set to 755, with read by everyone the standard. Once again, Adobe will tell me, well, its some problem on your side. NO, the problem is the utter garbage you released...Guess its back to CS3 web galleries. THANKS ADOBE, FOR DESTROYING A CENTRALLY CRITICAL PART OF YOUR SOFTWARE IN CS4 YET AGAIN!!!!! GLAD I SPENT ALL THAT TIME CHECKING COLORS IN BRIDGE AND BUILDING THESE SLIDE SHOWS!!!

Hi, All:

Bridge Dev and QE team is investigating this issue. so far, we had some results from all of your post.

for people who use fetch to do upload, please remember to set your transfer type to "Binary", please do not use "ASCII" as transfer mode.

once you switch to Binary, it should work.

thanks!

We have to remember how Dreamweaver works.  Since Dreamweaver 8, when you build a page with images and upload it, the pages are blank except for text.  The images have to be uploaded separately form the "Image folder." (or whatever you call it.)  The page then references the images in the folder.

I think that the problem with Bridge may be that the Web Gallery is uploaded and the images are in a file that is not recognized.

There is no standard web hosting system.  Earlier this year, I switched hosts and had to rename and redirect pages and images in both of my sites.

It took three days because of incompetent Tech Support.  Finally a supervisor said the magic words, and I was up and running.

Hi, Dear Adobe Bridge Users:

as I post that we want to see whether the blank page issue is caused by the upload type setting when you do FTP in Fetch.

so may I request your help to verify this, no matter what FTP client tool you used, please remember to set the type as Binary, NOT ASCII.

it would be highly appreciated if you can reply me in the forum.

thanks!

Changing the transfer type to binary did nothing to fix the issue.

Dear Tony Wu,

Let me sum up the issue here.

Most of my web galleries upload fine, others don't, it is a random thing. The files are on the server, but they don't show up properly, no thumbnails, frozen loading etc. Only clicking on the back arrow causes the photos to appear. Not right

All the galleries have the same permission - 771- so it is not a permission issue

Transmit has an auto type as default, and even when you specify Binary some galleries don't load properly - so it is not a type issue

I would say that when a customer pays $700 for Photoshop, he or she should expect the software to work flawlessy, and support to be real support, and not some sort of self help tool. I think Adobe should make public the fact that there is a problem with the web galleries, and work day and night to fix it

Sincerely,

Roberto

I have Dreamweaver CS4.  All my permissions are set to 755.  I created my galleries with Bridge CS4,  When I upload them tthrough the Put function in Dreamweaver all the files are uploaded.  However, when I view the website on any computer other than the one where the pictures are stored I get a blank screen.  In Dreamweaver I see the path for the files showing up as my local drive.  This is not in the code it is up under the toolbar area next to the page name that I have open.  Any suggestions?  I have the whole CS4 Design Premium Suite.  Should I be using something else to create my gallery?  My webhost is www.fatcow.com.  I am using Windows 7.

With Dreamweaver CS4 you have to upload the Images Folder with the

Gallery. What's happening is that the Gallery knows where the images

are on the machine you used to upload the files, however, if you

haven't uploaded the Images folder, the Gallery just has titles to

work with on other machines. It can't find the images.

What I do is create a link from a page on my website to the the Index

in the Gallery Folder which is in the Assets Folder in Dreamweaver.

I upload the page with the link, then I upload the entire Gallery

Folder which also contains the Images Folder.

Robert,

Thank you for your reply.  I did upload the images folder to the server.  This is the code I have on my gallery page:

In looking at the code, I don't know where to have it point to my webiste. I think that might be my problem.  Can you help me?  I am not a programmer.  I thought that when I clicked on the browse button under src and pointed it to the image file in Dreamweaver that it would upload when I clicked on put in Dreamweaver.

Rosie:

It depends on the host. If you are using a shared server (ATT,

Hostway, many others), the images have to be uploaded to their

servers. If you run your own server, the images will load.

Create the Web Gallery in the Bridge. Check, "Save to Disc", and save

to the "Photos", "Images" or whatever you call it Folder in your

website folder.

When you open Dreamweaver, find the Gallery folder and open it.

Select the text or image link you want to use as a pointer on

whatever page you want in your website. Aim that link to the "Index"

page in your Web Gallery. Choose how you want the Gallery to appear

(same page or new (blank).

Upload the pointer page and the complete Gallery Folder (which

includes the Images Folder) to the server. Now your images are on the

remote server and can be viewed.

Look at my Chamoismoon site. On the first page, scroll down to near

the bottom. You will see initials below the "Last Update". These

are client Web Galleries. Click on one and you will see the Web

Gallery open in a Blank Page.

Hope this helps.

Bob

Forget about code! Your website needs to point to the Index in your

All - just look at the number of views and comments on this thread. Is anyone at adobe listening and acting upon this problem? And no I don't mean upgrade at cost to CS5. Any answers for those of us still unable to use Bridge 4 for galleries?

It only took me 7 months of giving up and going back to CS3 galleries to discover the problem. All I do is reselect raw data from the drop down menu next to the put button in Fetch. I dont know why it works, but it does. I'm not a developer like the guys at Adobe running off to the golf course or sailing club. Gee, why would people use Fetch, the most used FTP mac software in history. Adobe stripped the galleries out of Pshop, bloated them up, although still neglected tons of potentially useful features, inside of Bridge and then didnt test them to see how to make them work. Adobe doesnt care about the mac and as soon as I can get away from them I will. Pshop does some good stuff, but its not what it could be by a long shot. AE is the only program I actually enjoy in the lineup. Premiere is a joke, and it isnt getting any better in CS5. Check the specs people. It's over. Adobe can give me CS5 but I wont be buying it. Jobs must know what he's talking about avoiding Flash. Looking up CSS jscript galleries. They're coming fast and furious.

Dont thank me. Thank Adobe for not real world testing their own software the soft

ware they charge money for and spend what I assume are multimillions on advertising and marketing.

Maybe someone in the marketing dept should be fired, and someone in the development dept and quality control promoted.

I gave up on the Adobe galleries.   For some strange and unknown reason, most likely an update, the gallery in CS4 will not allow me select more than 10 photos.  I  bought the Adobe Design Premier CS5 student edition for my daughter and when she tried to create a gallery in Bridge the same thing happened.  She could only select 10 photos.  She tried looking in CS5 for the gallery but could not find it.  I got her WonderShare and it works fine.  What a shame that Adobe broke something that worked.  I am  teaching myself Java and PHP, so I won't have to worry about all this stuff.

Very simple, in order to do the task fast the gallery will show you the preview of only 10 photos though you can select all of them but shows only ten, proceed with what you are trying to achieve and it will work on all selected images for sure.

Thanks
