bridge 'show items from subfolders' doesn't work on mac

I've been working like this for years now, I have all my photos on external hard drive, this is where they have been all the time. Every time I clicked on 'show items in subfolders' they immediately showed up but now it just gives me 'no items to display' with all the folders in there, not a specific one.

I tried to clean the cache in few ways, restart pc, reinstall the software. nothing helped.

Anny suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

What kind of external drive, and how is it formatted? Do files show if you actually open one of those subfolders?

It's a seagate 8 TB in NTFS format.

But it doesn't really matters because this option doesn't work also on my internal drives as well.

And yes the files shows up when I go into each and every folder and subfolder.

Using NTFS is a problem on mac, you should use HFS Extended or ExFAT instead.

And if there are problems on your internal drive, something else is going on. Do you have a filter pinned, for example?

I use NTFS because I work on a PC a lot and I keep moving it back and forth.

I cleared all filters, because I use this options ALL the time i'm pretty aware to all those little problems that may accure and I went on almost everything I could come up with, even removing all cache, reinstalling the software, connect different h.drive or checking the option on my internal drives.

I think It's definitely a software issue and not hardware of any kind.
