Dragging folders from Box Drive into Bridge 2024 removes them from Box Drive

I attempted to drag files from Box Drive v 2.35.95 (Mac Finder view) into Bridge v14.00.102 and they were immediately removed from Box. What is going on here? This looks to be a known issue. Help me understand why this ever was an issue and why it hasn't been addressed?

Sounds to me that this is no different from DropBox or OneDrive.

Each of the latter two (since I've never used Box Drive, I cannot say for sure on that one, but I strongly believe it's the same thing) has a folder on your system. At any time since the Mac first came out, if you moved files from one folder to another, it moved them, not copied them. But, also, since the Mac came out, if you pressed the Option key, you could copy them from one folder to another.

Yes, Box Drive is a cloud service, but the folders on your computer do not care what is linked to those folders in the cloud; it just sees content in the folder that's on the computer.

With DropBox, which I have the most experience with, if I drag a file out of a shared folder on my Mac, a window pops up asking if I really want to remove this file for everyone else. If I'm the sole owner of that folder, I do not get asked that question. This message comes from the DropBox software, not my Mac.

I suppose what you need to do if you want to remove a folder or the content(s) of a folder from Box Drive but do not want to remove those items from the cloud, press the Option key to make a copy of the files onto the new location on your hard drive. Then, you will have two copies of those files: those in Box Drive and those somewhere else on your computer. FWIW. I am always going into files in DropBox, using them, updating them, etc. I never thought to remove them from DropBox to work on them and then return them to DropBox.

So, in short, if I'm correct, there's nothing to be addressed, it's working normally.

If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Thanks Gary,

The issue is that I'm dragging the folders and/or files into the application to open them. Something I've done with Box Drive and Bridge for years. I'm not dragging and dropping into different folders. This is new behavior from Bridge. I also noticed that earlier versions of Bridge are no longer available if I want to go back one version to. One question: if I drag the file into Bridge and it dissapperas from Box Drive, where is it going and why is the application messing with my folder stucture?

Hi @mistercleen ,

Thanks for your feedback.

If we drag and drop files from any drive to Bridge's content panel, it moves the assets. Although it copies when we choose option key while dragging files. If you just want to open files, you should drag and drop files in Preview Panel or dock icon.

If you are observing different behavior, please share the video if the issue at sharewithbr@adobe.com

Thanks,

Bridge Team

Hi Bridge Team. You said "If we drag and drop files from any drive to Bridge's content panel, it moves the assets. " This is new, unexpected and IMO highly undesirable behavior from Bridge 2024. Luckily I found Bridge 2023 available under the three dots next to the currently installed app listed under Apps in the Creative Cloud app. Problem solved.

Both Bridge 2023 and Bridge 2024 have a lot of bugs but 2024 fixes quite a few. The best bet is to not use cloud services with Bridge as Adobe doesn't support this. And I know you want to say, well its been working and yes until it doesn't work anymore. Reliability is zero when mixing the two. Just an FYI.
