Question

How to stop creating xml files for regular jpeg images?

Hello!

After latest update to the Bridge 14.1 on MAC while batch rotating JPEGs, it creates XMP files which are not reading by other applications, and JPEGs placing missoriented. It wastes a lot of time to delete XMPs and manually rotate photos one by one.

An interesting point - xmp are not created for all photos, but only for those where I used generative expand or fill.

Is it possible to configure the bridge to rotate JPEGs without creating XMPs, as in previous version?

Regards, Oleksandr

Hi,

The fix for the issue is available in the latest updates of Adobe Bridge 15.0 and ACR 17.0.

We would love for you to try it out and share your feedback.

For more details about the release, please refer to:

Hi,

Thank you for reporting the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

The additional XMP file you observe is created when changing or applying metadata to any JPG/JPEG file containing Content Credentials. This behavior change was recently introduced due to Content Credentials support in Camera Raw release (version 16.3). We're actively working to investigate this issue and will keep you posted on updates around this.

Please refer to helpx article: https://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/xmp-file-jpeg.html for more details and a workaround.

Thanks,
Bridge team

Thank you so much for your reply. I love Bridge and Camera Raw, and I feel more confident about the future now that I know you're aware of those sidecars xmp files. I work in a company where productivity is key to delivering fast results, and sometimes I have no choice but to edit metadata afterward (last changes).

Knowing that you are working on it is reassuring, and thank you for your clear communication.

Today, Adobe released Camera Raw 16.5. Anyone who installed this update - does the problem with sidecar XMP when editing photos with AI tools persist?

Unfortunately, yes!

Thank you for trying, on my side the problem persists.

How can we make Adobe aware of this?

Same issue, when using bridge to append meta data to jpgs created in Photoshop (save as).

What have you done since then? Me it's running me mad because I don't want to come back to 16.00. I need AI but at the same time this problem make me loose to much time ...

I'm running into the same issue, but it's not limited to JPGs where I used Generative Expand or Fill. I can't figure out a common pattern to the files affected, but need to be able to apply metadata to these JPGs. Hopefully there's a fix or workaround soon

I'm sorry, but I'm struggling to help you. The problem is that the JPG format is also a container file (think of a folder) that "should" contain the xmp file. But obviously, in all of your cases, it does not. If you are using Adobe Camera Raw's Masking features, those generate ".acr" sidecar files, and those are not contained in a JPG. If you were setting them, you could do nothing about that.

But in my case, since I started with Bridge (around 2005), I've never seen a sidecar file (.xmp) show up in the Finder with JPGs. I've been adjusting DNGs, TIFs, and JPGs all this time. All three of these are container files. The only time I see .xmp files is when I'm adjusting raw images from my Canon (CR2 files, which are not container files).

So, help me help you. What adjustments are you making to initiate this? Please be specific. Do you ever not see this after making adjustments? I cannot help you if I cannot replicate your issue.

Thanks for your reply! After more digging through the forums, I just found out this may be a bug with Camera RAW rather than Bridge. I had tried rolling back several versions of Bridge and was still getting the XMP files when editing JPG metadata, but once I reverted to earlier version of Camera RAW it finally stopped.

I was able to download and install Camera Raw 16.0 by editing the download URL on the 14.5 links here. After restarting my computer I went back into Bridge (14.1.0) and was able to apply/edit metadata on JPGs that were creating the XMP sidecar files before, and no XMP files were created, so it looks like the issue is resolved for now, as long as I don't update Camera RAW for the time being.

For Mac I used https://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/cameraraw/mac/16.x/CameraRaw_6_0.dmg

If it works the same for Windows, it should hopefully be https://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/cameraraw/win/16x/AdobeCameraRaw_x64_16_0.exe

I have exactly the same problem/bug. It also happens when I edit files created by Adobe Firefly 3.0. When I created a dummy file in Photoshop without adding AI, it managed to add metadata directly on the file itself without creating XMP.

И у меня тоже такая проблема. Но я не хочу их "не видеть", я хочу чтобы их не было в этой папке совсем, как раньше. Вы решили эту проблему?
