Background remover for images not working

Explorer ,
Oct 01, 2025 Oct 01, 2025

PNG, yes, removed in Express, yes.  The image is full of grey and white squares in Photoshop.  What a nightmare. Yes, I reloaded the browsers, restarted the Mac, renamed files, and relaunched Photoshop.  I just want a transparent PNG.

Thanks for your patience while we get this sorted. If you are in urgent need of removing a background from an image, a workaround is to go through the process in Adobe Express directly, rather than using the site that does it for you. Here are the steps in case it is helpful

Open Adobe Express in a web browser at https://express.adobe.com/

Select the option to Start from your content

Upload your image, select Remove Background and select a transparent background in the resulting dialogue

There is a bug, we cannot post "design" backgrounds on Adobe, it won't let us add backgrounds under the design feature, it's broken, can we please fix?

After removing the background on video clips and editing into chapters with layer overlays...and the passage of a few hours with an open window...I just had two videos completely pixelate into useless resolution for no reason.

Hello, I'm clicking on the stock backgrounds and only a fraction of them will actually load. A majoirty will not.

  • I'm having a very frustrating experience on the mobile version, where images with a transparent background simply have a black block in the background, making creation difficult. I've already updated, uninstalled, deleted the cache, and nothing works.

I have been using Adobe Express background remover for almost three months without any issues. Normally I could upload an image, remove the background, download the PNG, and open it in a older version of Photoshop running on on my Mac Pro workstation (older but maxed out for graphics and video)  It would show the checkerboard as expected to indicate transparency, but the file itself was actually transparent. Now something has changed with your online system. Whether I use the new link (https://new.express.adobe.com/home/tools/remove-background) or the old link (https://www.adobe.com/express/feature/ai/image/remove-background), the export appears correct online, but when I download it the checkerboard is no longer just an indicator. It is baked into the PNG as actual pixels, permanently attached to the image. This destroys the transparency and forces me to manually remove the checkerboard with Photoshop tools, which is not always possible if the subject contains white areas. This is a serious problem and needs to be corrected immediately, because transparent PNG export is essential and was working properly until recently.

Hey guys

Experiencing a bug as of today on the Image background remover feature. Instead of giving me a transparent background it's baking in the checked background. Exporting in PNG. Using Adobe express app for mobile on android. Tried clearing cache & reinstalling app to no avail. I rely on this feature heavily for project work. Any fixes or workarounds? Help very much appreciated.

Hi everyone,

We’re really sorry you’re running into this. It sounds like the background remover isn’t processing correctly. To help troubleshoot, could you confirm:

  • Are you using Adobe Express on the web or app?

  • Which browser and OS are you on?

  • Does this happen with all images or only this specific one?

We’ve shared this issue with our engineering team, and they’re actively investigating.

Hi mahmoud,

  • Using Adobe express on the app with android device. It happens on every image. This issue only occurred today. Before then it was working flawlessly. Tested on other apps so I conclude it's appears to be an Adobe specific bug.
