Illustrator no longer updating when new fonts added, without restarting.

Community Beginner ,
Aug 14, 2025 Aug 14, 2025

Not sure if this is a bug, or if it has been removed. But while loaded, Illustrator no longer seems to update the fonts list, if a new font is installed. Meaning a restart of Illustrator is necessary, if you want the newly installed fonts to show.

It used to do it, but now it needs a restart.

I'm confirming this.  I use to love how newly downloaded fonts were immediately available in any of my open Adobe sessions. Testing this just now in Illustrator and Premiere and the newly downloaded font(s) does NOT appear in my open sessions. They only appear after I close and reopen.  😞

Same. I hope they fix it - it isn't the end of the world but it definitely isn't convenient. Especially when I am working with multiple files and need them all opened again.

Hi @Rhoobarb2005 ,Could you please specify the source from which you’re installing the fonts?

Currently on 30.0.48

So I did some quick testing, as requested. My testing results:

- OTF installed via Windows Font Viewer - doesn't work
- OTF copied manually to windows/fonts folder - doesn't work
- OTF to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator (Beta)\Support Files\Required\Fonts - works!

- TTF installed via Windows Font Viewer - doesn't work
- TTF copied manually to windows/fonts folder - doesn't work
- TTF to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator (Beta)\Support Files\Required\Fonts - works!

So it seems that copying to the dedicated Illustrator fonts folder, it works. But copying/installing to the system fonts folder doesn't work.

I don't use the dedicated folder as a rule because I want the fonts accessible to the other adobe products. So I hadn't thought to check that before. But it seems that it works for the dedicated folder, just not the system folder.

Hope that helps.

I still think that adobe shouldn't remove a feature so useful

Adobe Fonts update instantly but when I "install a font" Illustrator does not recognize it. I could have sworn it did that in the past.

So Adobe brought out an Illustrator update, but didn't fix this... sad

This is still happening and is very annoying. This was a bad move to remove this feature.  I also stinks of Adobe purposefully trying to make it inconvenient to use fonts outside their own ecosystem.

Tengo todo el dia revisando este problema. mi solucion ha sido instalar la version 29.7.1 y desactivar las actualizaciones automaticas de illustrator en Creative Cloud. Miestras Adobe soluciona el problema

Latest Beta (30.0.91 and newer) fixed it for me

I'm not using beta. The stable version was updated 6 days ago without fixing the fonts not updating issue.

As it seems to be fixed in the Beta, then I imagine that it will be in the stable release, soon.

I just reverted to pervious version 29.8.1 using the Creative Cloud Desktop app and it has alowed me to use my normal workflow.  I am designing fonts and it is helpful to preview the results in Illustrator without having to re-start between every adjustment.  I will update to verion 30 when released out of beta.

Hi all! I'm having the same problem here, lastest version October 8th, as I saw on the previus comments the issue on the beta is now fixed so it will be updated on the normal version soon, right?
