P: Gen Remove now changes elements outside the painted mask

The update to the Generative Remove AI model in Lightroom Classic 14.5 has ruined it, as it now changes elements outside the painted mask, making it more or less unusable in many situations.

Hi there,

Sorry about this experience. This has been reported by a few other users too. To better understand, could you share a bit more information?

  • Which exact version of Lightroom are you using?

  • What operating system and version are you on?

  • Does this happen with all images or only certain types (e.g., products with shiny surfaces, complex reflections)?

  • Could you provide an example screenshot showing the selection and the altered result (if possible)?

This will help confirm whether it’s a broader issue with the latest update or something specific to your file.

Regards,

Srishti

Hello, my version is 20250821 - 1548 - c6398d5

I use Mac, version 8.5.1 on the Mac App Store

It mainly happens with shiny product surfaces, reflections, I take product photography, mainly glasses. I use the Remove tool to remove glare or reflections from studio lights. With the previous version these errors did not occur. I was really happy with the results, but since the last update it has stopped working properly. It changes and alters surfaces and shapes outside the selected area, removes a reflection and adds it to another area close to the one I am editing. It is a mess in the work. I should also say that the function to remove reflections does not work properly. Most of the time the result is not noticeable on the photograph.

Regards

Of course I use Lightroom Classic on Windows. Your results may varry (different version number?).

Uninstall the current version and install version 14.4. Lookup the instructions in Adobe help. The AI remove works fine in that version.

Lightroom on iPad was updated two days ago, but the Remove Generative AI tool has only gotten worse. I can’t process anything at all, neither on the laptop version nor on the iPad. My entire work relies on this tool, and now everything has come to a standstill! Please update and fix the Remove ai as soon as possible!!

Are there any news from Adobe regarding the subject? I feel like it's getting worse day by day

YESSSS! So happy I'm not alone, I thought I was suddenly losing my mind or had accidentally hit a setting. It was awesome, 90% sucessful, and now it's more like 40% and the littlest things are completely awful.

I reverted to 14.4 and now I'm getting this. None of the three AI options is any good, but at least the woman still has a face. Adobe - put regenerative remove back to the way it was in 14.4 and spend more energy on training. I don't mind including shadows in my selection! You've flown too close to the sun, wax melted, and your feathers fell off.
