Nano Banana generate tool changes size of image when generating

It's a consistent thing I am seeing when generating things like "new hair color" or altering anything about the image I am working with - the new generation is great, but is almost always different size from the original image, either stretched a little bit, or squished, or larger, or shifted in space, but never exactly perfectly blended with the original image - so it takes a bit of effort to blend the new generation back into the original image.
Seems like a bug vs. a feature to me 🙂

I’ve had success with this even more cumbersome workaround:

Make a square selection over the area you are working on and Comman-J to make a new layer from it. Convert that layer to a smart layer. Thn double click to open that smart layer as a separate file. Select canvas of that file and then do your NanoBanana work there. When done, save the file and the resulting change will show up in the original file, hopefully un-displaced.

If you like it you can rasterize it, merge it down, and it becomes a seamless part of your image.

Hopefully.

I hope this bug is fixed soon. It’s cumbersome.

omg yes. Have this for months now! every replace/remove/or fill I do is offset in size!  Unusable.  So I use standalone sometimes to fix things.  When is this fixed???  Flux also does this.

Late to the party (Thanks for the heads up @CShubert )

I first noticed this anomoly on launch day Tuesday - at the precon we had 2026 running Sat/Sun/Mon with no issues. We came back from keynotes to the lab and boom! The sizes were all wonky on gens. 85 students all had the same experience.

Here is a more recent example from an actual instance.

The selected area is 1014 x 1665.

The generated result isnt just smaller, its completely distorted. We tried to scale it to fit the existing content and this is what we found:

While we could align the legs and floor - the table perspective is off.

Hi all, the team is working with Google on this issue and will upload a fix as soon as they have one.

Thanks,

Same here, any time the imgae gets stretched or scaled up selecting the whole imgae hoping to feed tha right ratio and proportions then I get squished images,  I wonder if there's a fixed parameter to get the original values back. Just as a temporary workaround.

Same thing for me... any update on this Adobe?

To go a bit further with the 1x1 ratio workaround, there’s no point in having a square image if the selection is rectangular. And if your image isn’t in a 1x1 ratio but the selected area is, the workaround still works.

Oh no, too good and too easy to be true advice was dispersed?
Ok, gotta wait for a tricky technical fix from Adobe and Google then....

Same issue here,

The 1x1 Ratio for the marquee selection trick doesn't seem to be working, at least not consistently across generation with NanoBanana.

This is what I get. Even i scale the canvas and image size to 1000x1000, it doesn't fix a thing
