Dear Adobe Team,
I am encountering a consistent UI lagging issue in Adobe Premiere Pro when working with text layers that overlap with video clips in the timeline. This issue makes the timeline less responsive and introduces FPS drops, especially when dragging or extending the duration of text layers.
The Problem:
When a text layer is placed directly over a video clip (on higher tracks such as V4, V5, etc.), the performance of the timeline degrades significantly. However:
- If the text layer is placed outside the video area (e.g., completely to the side or above an empty section of the timeline), the issue disappears, and the timeline remains fluid and responsive.
Observed Behavior:
- Overlapping Text and Video:
- Extending or dragging the duration of text layers over video clips causes UI lag, FPS drops, and delayed responsiveness.
- Text Outside the Video:
- When the same text layer is moved outside the area of the video clips, the performance improves, and there is no lag at all.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Create a timeline with video clips on V1.
- Add 4–8 text layers on higher tracks (V4, V5, etc.).
- Place the text layers directly above the video clips and try to extend or drag their duration.
- Observe the lagging UI and FPS drops.
- Move the same text layers outside the video area and repeat step 3. Notice that the timeline performance improves significantly.
Additional Information:
- Hardware:
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super
- RAM: 64GB
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
- Software Version:
- Tested on the latest stable and Beta versions of Premiere Pro.
- Cache Status: Cleared multiple times during testing.
- System Performance: All other features and playback remain smooth and responsive.
This behavior suggests that the lag is likely caused by how Premiere Pro processes the interaction between text layers and video clips during timeline adjustments. It seems to involve unnecessary recalculations when layers overlap with video.
Request:
Please optimize the timeline UI performance when text layers are placed over video clips. Ensuring consistent responsiveness would greatly improve the editing experience, particularly for projects with multiple text overlays.
Thank you for your continued work on improving Premiere Pro. I appreciate your attention to this issue and look forward to future updates.
Best regards,
Shoaib
