Camera Raw 15 auto-opens png files

This is a bug report. I contacted support and the problem was only solved by rolling back to a previous version. Any png image opens automatically in Camera Raw, although all the preferences of Camera Raw are disabled. Hope someone of the team will advise that.

I don't think ACR even supports png files. Are you sure they are actually pngs?

No (and yes, with a caveat), so your question is a good one. 

 

No, if the OP looks at the ACR preferences, support is for TIFF, JPEG, and HEIC. 

 

Yes, with a caveat or 'trick', which is forcing ACR (not ACR as a filter) to open them as if they were raw (which they are not, of course). You do this by selecting the Format menu as Camera Raw. TIFFs, JPEGs, etc, open in ACR. 

 

I tried this with a PNG for the first time, it worked as it has in the past for TIFF and JPEGs with the pref's off to do so.
