P: Camera Raw Basic tab disappeared

Hi there,

I'm just processing some pictures here and wondering where the 'Basic' tab has gone within Camera Raw? (usually situated at the top where the red dot in the attached picture is)

Screenshot 2023-10-17 at 10.33.41.png

It's the place where pretty much every adjustment I use on pictures is situated, including saturation, vibrance, dehaze highlights etc etc. At the moment, without the basic tab, I have to keep opening different tabe separately, which is making workflow when dealing with multiple pictures a bit of a pain.

Any ideas? Thank you. Mike Kemp

The functions previously found under "Basic" are now to be found under "Light", "Color" and "Effects" as shown in your screenshot. Three panels rather than one I'm afraid.

If you use "Multiple Panel Mode" (right click on any panel and select it) you can keep the three panels open at the same time which saves a few clicks.

OK, that's all clear, I see now how I can have them all open at once which make a big difference, and so it's as good as it was with the Basic tab. Thank you Erik. Much appreciated. Mike

These changes aren't welcome. The man who originally designed the panels was thinking with his brain. Now somebody come and messed up the things just for the sake of change. All those controls in the Basic panel has to be used at the same time. No the multiple open panel mode is not an option, the original idea was to keep open one single panel, not to scroll endlessly up and down just to change something!

This kind of changes aren't welcome at all! Adobe should bring innovations at other places.

Reverting back to an older version is spit in the face of subscribers. Or Adobe lowers the subscription price for using the older version? No.

The software team has became really bad at Adobe. Bug, bugs, and more bugs, then itiotic UI changes.

The thing is that Lightroom still got the "older" UI.

I really liked the simplicity of Camera Raw, not there is endless scrolling and clicking around.

Just when my muscle memory had almost tuned in the the new UI they changed one more time.

Who is responsible for this [cursing removed]?

why arent more people upset about this?

What is the step-by-step procedure to combine/reduce the number of editing panels in Adobe Camera Raw version 16.0? The version 16.0 update resulted in scrambling of the panels and as such more panels really messed up an efficient workflow. It takes longer to have to open more panels to find the exact same function as before.

There isn't a step by step procedure. To begin, right click on any panel and study the available options in the menu offerred. Try out the options for yourself to see if that helps you. They are largely self explanatory.

My question was not about the functions and what the functions do. My question was about how to unscramble the location of the functions. But thanks for trying.

Try looking at "Edit Panels to Show" option.

You can show/hide whichever panels you want and move their relative positions.

Is that what you mean by "unscrambling"?

Where is the Edit Panels to Show option in Adobe Camera Raw version 16.0? Can you provide a picture? I don't find anything on ACR with that title. What I mean by unscrambling is what others have posted, and you have posted responses, about the ACR version 16.0 have 11 headings in its editing panels. 1. I want to move all the functions of "Light" to the "Effects" panel. 2. Then, I want to delete the empty "Light" panel. 3. That places color temperture adjustment on top which is where I prefer to start. Here is the question a second time - What is the step-by-step procedure to combine/reduce the number of editing panels in Adobe Camera Raw version 16.0? Attached, fro a second time, is a picture to show what I mean by editing panels.

Basically, by referring to Adobe scrambling things I'm referring to the same topic as what you replied to in the attached photo of another post.

What you are asking for is not currently possible. Yes, the panels and their contents have been changed but they are now as they are and we are stuck with them - at least with this release of Camera Raw.

Yes, I have the same problem.  I have specific steps in my workflow that were very simple in the "Basic" panel.  With 16.0, I need to jump back & forth between panels to retain the same sequence of steps.  I decided to re-install 14.5 to retain the Basic panel and not disrupt the workflow I've used for years.

Yep, once gain Adobe does a half baked update, and breaks all rational workflow. When correcting thousands of files, you generally are working on Temp/Tint and exposure. You used to be able to Tab forward and Shift-Tab backward and move between these boxes.

But no longer................seriously why do the constantly break this software.

I will now also have to revert to 14.5 untill this is fixed.

This is the adobe syndrome. To widen ther market they focus on dumbing down every aspect - so the non proffessional can be mind tricked. It is why C1 is gaining more market share with Pro's

Since Camera Raw 16 now has more panels, you can no longer use CTRL+7 to open the Geometry panel. Since Geometry is the 10th panel, there is no longer a keystroke combination to apply. Is there a workaround or other keyboard combo that can be used to open panels past #9 (for Geometry and Calibration panels)?

One solution is to rearrange the panels so the ones you want to work with keyboard shortcuts  to #9 are in order from top to bottom in the panel hierarchy.

You can do this by right clicking on one of the Panels, click Edit Panels to Show, then highlight a Panel and use

the up or down arrow keys on your keyboard to move the panel.
