Hello,

In multiple-choice question slides.

Is it possible to highlight the correct answer options and show feedback revealing the correct answers after the 3rd attempt even when the incorrect answer options are clicked?

Thank you,

Thanks for your patience, I will publish it as a blog later, but here is a quick step-by-step workflow. I have combined the two solutions, a highlight after the third attempt over the correct answer, and the three failure messages (which are wrongly labeled as captions, because shapes are used); I took out the incomplete message, to make the screenshots less messy but you can keep it if wanted:

  • Set up the Quiz Properties like this; if you want the highlight, the 'Continue' action under 'Last At

Which exact version are you using? Version 11.8.2 has the label 'Classic Captivate' but is rather buggy. Maybe you have a previous version like 11.5.5.553?

With the default MCQ slides this is not possible AFAIK because you cannot address the individual answers since they do not have an ID. There are no system variables for them neither.

If you create a custom MCQ slide it should be possible, but I have not a blog post right away with the workflow.

During review the learner will see the correct answers, but that is for sure not what you want.

1) Mam, I am using the version "11.8.2.254".

2) Can we track the score of custom Mcq in the scorm?

3) "During review, the learner will see the correct answers, but that is for sure not what you want"- Yes mam, if it is not possible in captivate default MCQ then I will try with custom MCQ if you suggest.

Thank you!

As I wrote, the version you are using is very buggy. Moreover the learning interactions, including checkboxes and radiobuttons have been taken out. That makes the creation of custom MCQ slides harder. If you design those slides using scored objects the score can be transferred to a LMS. Other features of the default quiz slides are not so easy to mimick.

I just think of an alternative if you don't insist on the highlights. You can have up to 3 failure messages for quiz slides. Why do you not use the third message to indicate the correct answers? That would save you a lot of time compared with creating custom quiz slides.

Mam what is the alternative you are suggesting? How to create that?

Are you asking about using the 3 possible Failure messages or about creating custom MCQ questions?

I am not creating many new blog posts now, since the thousands of hours I have spent freely to help other users by writing out workflows have been just thrown away like trash due to a new version which ignores all the questions asked by users in two decades and causing frustrations for all advanced eLearning course creators.

Mam, I am asking about the 3 failure messages.

No issues mam, I have always respected your work and am always grateful for the support you have given me. I always use your workflow in my day-to-day captivate work and it is always precious for New learners like me. Without teachers like you, we are nowhere.

Thank you mam for all the support you have given.

I know perfectly how to show you some screenshots in version 11.5.5.553 but need to check it in that buggy version you are using, which will need some time. I will be back.

Just one last question: you are not using Fluid boxes for a responsive project I hope?

OK. I forgot something which is specific for MCQ with multiple correct answers. If the answer is partially correct, it will be considered as being correct, thus not showing a Failure message. Like all feedback messages on quiz slides, the three failure messages do not have an ID, so I cannot show them using the Success event in case of partial correct answers. It will have to be more customized. That version is so frustrating, even entering answers is difficult... Why did they introduce so many bugs, while not adding any useful feature compared with 11.5.5? Is that on purpose?

I will show you some screenshots for a MCQ with 1 correct answer, but this will not be valid for a MCQ with multiple correct answers. For one correct answer, I could even find a simple workflow for highlighting, provided you don't let the answers being shuffled.

Mam, partial answers are not considered. As it is not possible with MCQ with multiple correct answers. Will follow what you suggest for only 1 correct answer and be ready to implement.

I have combined the two solutions, a highlight after the third attempt over the correct answer, and the three failure messages (which are wrongly labeled as captions, because shapes are used); I took out the incomplete message, to make the screenshots less messy but you can keep it if wanted:

  • Set up the Quiz Properties like this; if you want the highlight, the 'Continue' action under 'Last Attempt' will be replaced by a shared or advanced action.
    QuizProper.PNG
  • Due to the choice for 3 failure messages, two more failure messages will have been added somewhere. It is not a fixed location, depends on the theme. Often the two extra messages will be on stacked, which means you need to drag the top one to see all of them. To detect the correct sequence, hover or the message. In this screenshot I hovered over the second message, after dragging the third one down because it was covering the second:
    Fail3.PNG
  • Edit the messages and rearrange them, you can stack them again or mirror my set up here:
    FailEdited.PNG

If you want the highlight, follow these steps:

  • Create the highlight shape over the correct answer. Remember: all custom shapes are stacked below the embedded quiz objects. To make it visible you have to make sure that the 'answer area' is at least partially transparent:
    answerArea.png
In this case the answer area had a fill color, but at 60% alpha. The yellow shape behind it will blend, you'll have to look for a proper color combination.
  • Second consequence of the stacking: it is difficult to select that highlight area on the stage. Make sure to open the Timeline where selection is easier. You need to select the highlight an set it to invisible in output in its Properties panel:
    Highlight.PNG
    InvisibleOutput.png
  • You need to create an advanced or shared action, to be triggered by the Last Attempt event of the question slide (Quiz Propeties). This is the advanced action:
    AALastact.png
  • For the shared action, which I recommend since you may want to reuse this action on multiple slides in this project and later projects, I indicated already the parameters in the screenshot above, and here is their description
    LastActSA.png

I will now finish the example I used and let you know when the blog is online.

Thanks for the appreciation. When you have tested out the workflow, is it possible to mark the long answer here (with the many screenshots) as being correct? I will post this blog also on the eLearning community, but there are already multiple blogs waiting for approving.... The team doesn't like that I always try the same workflow in the new version, and so far it mostly a failure. I explain why it is a failure, but my comments are not even read.

Hello

That is achievable with multiple-choice question slides, yes. Regardless of which options were selected on the third try, you can program feedback to display the right answers and highlight the options that correspond to the responses. This guarantees the students a thorough educational experience. Tell me if you require any help configuring it!

The question has been answered and the answer has been recognized as correct and simple to apply.

I know that there are more complicated solutions, like using advanced answers and JS, but your answer is not even taking into account all data provided by the OP. It looks like an answer created by a ChatGPT agent.
