Advanced Answer Option feedback messages

I am using Captivate 8. I have a multiple choice quiz with 3 options, each with an advanced answer option feedback, 1 correct and 2 incorrect. When I output to HTML and preview the quiz in Chrome or IE11, the feedback boxes do not show. It works fine if output to SWF but I need to output to HTML

Correct answer Lilybiri

I was outputting my project to html and then previewing it in a browser and the advanced answer options weren't showing when answering the quiz. So my question still remains. Do the advanced answer options work in html?

Have a happy day

I still have 8.0.3.290 installed along with 9, will double-check.

Just tried out with one MCQ, with one correct answer (only way to have advanced answer option working) and everything worked as expected for me when I Preview HTML in Browser. Then I published to HTML, and had another view: all OK.

Either it is due to my version of 8 or something is wrong on your side.

My setup:

  • 4 answers
  • Infinite attempts
  • for the wrong answers: Show Feedback message and as action 'No action'
  • for the correct answer: Show Feedback message (changed its color) and as action 'Continue'

To check the full functionality of HTML output, deploy the published folder on a webserver. I'm not sure how you tested?

Which version of 8 are you using?

I am using Captivate 8.0.1.242.

I am not sure I understand. When I output to HTML and Captivate asks if I want to preview it, it opens in a browser window. Does this mean I cannot trust what I am previewing?

I have previewed it in Server-to-go, a self-contained web server. The same thing happens. Only when I don't use the Advanced Answer option and use the quiz feedback boxes, does it work properly. The problem with that is that I can't have targetted feedback depending on the response.

I finally updated Captivate to 8.0.3.290 not realising that AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat was stopping my software from doing so. However, even after updating, I still had the same problem. I handed my .cptx and published files to a colleague to look at. They recommended I recreate the slides from scratch, which I did. I was still getting the same issue happening.

I did find a work around though. The setting that most determined whether the slides worked or not, was influenced by the active/inactive pause setting on the slide. If the pause was within 1-2 seconds of the slide starting, the feedback boxes displayed correctly. If the pause was at the end of the slide, the feedback did not show.

Then since the two wrong answers were set to ‘no action’, I needed another button to move the slide on. I removed all formatting from the next button, added a duplicate 'next' looking button, with a pause applied towards the end of the slide. This allowed the slide to go to the next slide in the event of two wrong answers.

This may not be the correct procedure, but it works for the results I needed.

Hmmm, you didn't tell that you 'tweaked' the setup of the quiz slides, which can be screwing up a lot if you don't respect the very strict rules for those slides. You can move the pausing point on a question slide, which is normally set at 1.5secs, but never move it till the end of a question slide. That pausing point is linked to the most important button of each question slide, the Submit button, which has a lot of functionality built in. And all those evaluations have to be done. My recommendation, if you want to drag that pausing point is to leave at least a small inactive region.

Do not delete embedded objects at all: those are objects without an individual timeline!

Both are amongst the most visited articles, many users have issues with quiz slides.

BTW it is possible to have a real button on a question slide, but it needs to be a shape button:
