Question

Allowing text entry in a training simulation

I'm very new to Captivate 5 and I'm trying to create a training simulation where the end user must enter information in text entry boxes on several screens. I have played around with demonstration, assessment, and training modes and am unable to get the results I want. I know I am missing something (probably very simple).

When I recorded in training mode, text entry boxes were automatically inserted where I had entered text (as promised in the instructions); however, I am unable to manipulate those TEBs so that the end user must fill them in. Instead, when I preview the program, they fill in automatically. I want the user to be able to type in the correct information, tab to the next field and fill in the correct information, and so on.

Is this not possible, or am I just doing something wrong?

Thank you......

I encounted the exact same issue as this original post.  I also have checked all the default settings.  I cannot get he system to record in any mode and have the text entry boxes available for the user to input the data.

Did you ever find a solution for this?

My issue ended up being with the software I was trying to simulate. Apparently, it does not "play well" with Captivate. By using an older version of the simulated software, I was able to complete my project.

    Hello,

Are you sure you did not change anything in the Default settings for Training Simulation, and that you captured in that mode? I add a screenshot of the Default settings for Training mode and of the settings you have to choose before starting the capture.

As for the 'Tab' to next field: beware! You can use Tab only once on a slide as a shortcut for a TEB and moreover it can lead to issues (try a search in this forum).

I didn't change any of the settings - they look just like your screenshots.

    Thanks.

I have checked this first of all when CP5 appeared, because the creation of Text Entry Boxes in CP4 for a training simulation was not always working right. But until now I never had that issue with CP5. Now I'm really puzzled. Do you start CP as Administrator?

Are you sure you're not confusing the typing text animations from DEMO mode with the Text Entry Boxes that get inserted in Training and Asssessment recording mode?

If what you're seeing is the text entry boxes get filled in automatically one letter at a time, then you're looking at a typing text animation, not a text entry box.

I think you're right - they are labeled "typing text" in the timeline. So, is there a way to have text entry boxes inserted automatically, or do I have to manually place them in after recording?

Please, could you check the screenshots I posted in my answer?
