Another group has a Captivate 7 project that they are trying to open from a year ago to update. They are trying to open it in CP7. They get this error message no matter where they try to open it. None of these bullets seem to apply to this project. They are in St. Louis and when they couldn't open it they sent it to us here in Alabama and we get these same error messages.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Susan

Did they check for eventual 'lck' files? They should be in the folder where the file has been created.

I'm not sure what 'lck' files are.

Abreviation of 'lock', which means that the file was not properly closed on the original location, and remains locked for other developers

IF they find those files what do you do to unlock them? Susan Wright (Equilady) Remember, the mighty oak was just a nut that held its ground. http://www.equilady.com

Just delete those lock files.

Otherwise, the file may just be corrupted. That happens. Backups are important.
Files can be corrupted when being sent by email too. Does this 'other group' have the original source? Or did someone email to them?
If they received it electronically, ask the originator to .zip file CP source first then email.
.zipping a file for email transit definitely helps reduce the likelihood of corruption.
If they have the original source on a HD, no other backed-up version, and just can't get it open...they may be out of luck.
Are they *sure* it was created in CP7?
Anyone have CP8 they can use to try to open this source file, just in case it was updated, or in case the CP8 file upgrade process manages to open the file?
If absolutely nothing else, make a copy of the source file and rename the extension to .zip.
Open that .zip and you'll at least see a variety of assets within, which can be helpful if this needs to be rebuilt.

Thanks I tried to open it with CP9 and got the same error messages. I'll pass along your suggestions for them to try.
