UPDATE (4/27/2023): The macOS update for Captivate 11.8.1 is finally here! It's time to update.
We are proud to announce the latest update to Adobe Captivate 2019 – version 11.8.1, now available for Windows and macOS operating systems. CP 11.8.1 now supports macOS Ventura.
This update brings enhanced not only security and bug fixes, but also an exciting new addition - new voices for text-to-speech.
Adobe Captivate now offers a total of 14 voices, including 10 in English - seven US English voices (Ashley, James, Julie, Kate, Mark, Paul, and Sophie) and three British English voices (Adam, Alice, and Bridget). In addition, the update also includes French, Spanish, and Korean voices.
These voice enhancements provide users with a higher quality and greater variety of voices for use in Adobe Captivate. The update also ensures long-term compatibility with the latest Windows and macOS operating systems.
For more information, see the release notes.
Download Captivate 11.8.1 today!

Hi @Steve28195073y0ph Mac users cannot install the new voices. These new voices are Windows-only. We shall soon release the update for Mac. The new voices shall be available then. For now, the updates and the new voices are Windows-only.

Yes. I downloaded the new version. It seems to be the correct version. It's just confusing to have an update button in the application that doesn't work. Plus, I just hate filling out all that info about me and my company. Again.

Ho @da_texas sorry to hear about your experience. Did you manage to get Captivate 11.8.1 up and running? Are there areas you need assistance with? Do let us know.

Yes, it's working. However, I'm surprised there were some changes to how Captivate works, specifically for page previews. Options were taken away without notice, and no replacement for them. I can no longer preview the next "#" slides.

I am unhappy that I can't preview next #slides or from this slide. I used to use that a lot. It will be a lot more time consuming for me now.
Any chance, Adobe, that you can bring that back?

Hi @hazelplt Thank you for writing to us.
The next# slides was available only for the SWF workflows, not HTML5. We'd deprecated all the SWF workflows, which led to removal of the next# slides workflow.
However, I'll pass the feedback to the product team. I'll keep you posted.
Let us know your experience with the new release so far.

Hi Saurav,
Not sure what you mean, "only for the SWF workflows, not HTML5". I've been using that feature strictly in HTML5 for years. The only usuable alternative now is the "HTML5 in Browser", which takes a lot longer - rendering the entire course just to preview one or 2 slides. I'm used to updates breaking things, in the name of "progress", but this decision was definitely not made by an end user of the software.

I fully understand your frustration. Responsive projects had always temporary HTML output even for Next 5 slides, but in non-responsive projects all Preview methods except F11 resulted in not to be trusted SWF output. I logged that bug since years.
My workaround is to activate the TOC in overlay when previewing, to be able to navigate quicker to a specific slide. But you are correct, the whole project needs to be rendered. Another possibility if you have a linear and rather simple project (no advanced actions) is to hide some slides before previewing.

Thanks for understanding and commiserating. But your idea of hiding slides before previewing is great advice - especially if I'm trying to sort out an issue for a small subset of specific slides. Thanks for that!

Just be aware that if you hide slides in your project to facilitate previewing, and those slides happen to be used in any Actions or Advanced Actions as a target slide, then all affected actions will revert to a Continue action rather than pointing to the hidden slide. This might not affect your project if you aren't using actions to jump to specific slides. But if you are, hiding the slides can cause trouble. Just a heads up.

@RodWard Didn't I mention that? Or was it too short, and you wanted to emphasize more?

Hi @tenii28196754rgqa , re: the "broken update button", could you be a bit more specific? do you have a screenshot by any chance?

Thanks. FYI, to update to version 11.8.1, you must be on version 11.8, as 11.8.x are available on subscription.

I thought the whole point about the perpetual licenses was that these features would be rolled out to everyone at the same time. Why do I need to pay more to access 11.8 when I'm already paying for 11.5? Please advise.

I had the same problem of having no update available. Is there a update solution for the perpetual licence holder?

Was the ability to transition between slides purposely removed with this update? It's no longer on the Timing tab uder Slide Duration.

Slide transitions were based on SWF technology, reason why they were taken out in this version. Although some of them still seemed to work when publishing to MP4, they never worked for a publish to HTML5.

Since publishing to mp4 is still an option & transitioning does work with this feature, it's shortsighted for Adobe to have removed it.

Please log a feature request, I am just a user like you. I have already done so, that a warning about this feature not being available for HTML5 output would be more user friendly. You also need to know that I only tested a couple of slide transitions for video output, because personally I never use a cptx file to publish to MP4.
