Question

Captivate 2.0 Very Buggy After Import of SWF File (Flash 8)??

Where should I begin...

Issue 1
I just updated to Cap 2 and started using it. I have come across a few very weird issues. Everyting works fine until I import a swf file to the stage. After I import a swf file to the stage I realize I made a mistake in the swf file. So I updated the swf in Flash 8 and publish it. I then went into Cap 2 and tried to update the file (which I noticed that the update button has been removed.) When I go to import and import the updated file, it does not update it. I had to close the program and reboot before it would recognize the new file??? Sounds like a caching issue of some sorts, but very buggy in my eyes.

Issue 2
So now I have the new file in... great! But when I try to use one of the drop down menus from the top tool bar, the menu disappears immeditly after I have clicked on it??? The only way to get my menu's back is to close the program and reopen it.

Issue 3
I just recently found another problem... I was trying to work with Cap 2 in its crazy state, and I pulled one of the bars on the timeline torwards the end of the screen and the timeline disappeard??? So I went to view and clicked timeline... no change. Now I do not have a timeline??? I have tried running a reapir and I even tried several different new projects with different swf files to see if it was just that file and I have the same results.

Sorry so lengthly on my issues but this just sucks and I need help!! Anybody got any ideas!??

Thank you!!

I found this bug too and was so annoying when I had to create so many tutorials and couldn't right-click to access the menu.

    My work around was this:

    1. Click the mouse on a slide in the Edit tab
    2. Ctrl+C (copy)
    3. Ctrl+P (paste)
    4. Click on the new pasted slide and press the Delete button on your keyboard.

Flashing menu stops! How about that!

    Hi PGMG

I'm guessing that the Fabulous Flashing Menu Feature (FFMF™) was stopped by your actions because they resulted in taking focus totally away from the animation you had inserted. I'm guessing that by now you have absorbed the correct (and hopefully much simpler) workaround posted by rbLearning, which is to simply click an object (any object seems to do) over in the Library panel.

Thanks rbLearning. This little bug was annoying the crap out of me tonight. Thankfully, I didn't have to deal with it too long. But good to know that clickng in the library panel will remedy the unruly dropdown menus.

Guys - the issue with drop-down menus "flashing" open/closed is the subject of a technical bulletin. I'm surprised someone else didn't get back to you sooner!

The workaround is: immediately after importing a Flash animation, click on something in the Library panel. That will stop the menu problem until the next time you import another animation.

In my experience, the problem also shows up if you double-click on an animation to set its properties.

I have had several instances of Issue 2. I save the project and use Alt F C and Alt F X to close the project and then close Captivate. Annoying way to recover, but it does work.

My experience has been when I tried to put any animation (even the onex that come with Captivate) in a slide.

    Hopefully bug fix will follow.

I have experienced the same problem with the dropdown menus not staying open when I've inserted a SWF file onto a Captivate slide (Flash 2, Captivate 2). I have to use Fkeys. The Flash animation is simply showing the user an illustration of a concept. Also, the SWF does not keep the same "pace" and does not execute the same as it does when it is on its own (uninserted in Captivate). I'll try to close and open the Captivate file again. Any other thoughts on this issue?

Which version of Flash Player is installed on your PC? if it is 9.0.27, then you may have this issue. Try installing another Flash Player of version 9.016 or less.

    thanks

    Hi SaSQuaCh69247,

Issue 1 :- Select the SWF file in library, right click, and select update.

Issue 2 :- Actually it could be valid for Issue 1 also. It seems like SWF file you are trying to import, does some action like, importing another swf or connecting to server on the first frame itself. Captivate will try to play the first frame of SWF when you import them. Try creating a keyframe with the stop action as the first frame in your SWF, and see if you still have the issue.

Issue 3 :- The approach I am mentioning over here is generally the last approach which I will take in such scenerios, but since you have already experimented a little, so try this.
    Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    Rename captivate_v20.dat as captivate_v20_org.dat.
    Restart Captivate Application.

    thanks

Thank you for the reply DilbertG...

Issue 1 = When I try to right click on the swf file name under media in the library nothing happens. I do not see an update button anywhere in Cap 2.

Issue 2 = I think you misunderstood issue 2. Here is a video I made demonstrating my issue: Cap 2 Issue

Issue 3 = This worked. I renamed the .dat file and I got my timeline back! Thank you!

    Thanks for your help!
