Captivate 2019 Drag and Drop - Multi State Objects as Drop Targets

Greetings Everyone. I did not find the answer to my question in the discussion. Please assist, if possible.

My Drag and Drop project has eight multi state objects for drop targets. The Reset All radial buttons is selected. Hence, the drag objects return to their original position when an incorrect answer is submitted. However, the multi state objects drop targets retain their current state. ISSUE: How can I have Captivate reset all Drop targets to their Normal state when the drag objects return to their original position after Submit (with incorrect answer) is pressed?

Kind regards,
Sam Pearson

.There have been so many releases under the common name CP2019. Please give the full version number which  can be found under Help, About Captivate.

You will probably need to create an advanced action as Failure action.

Thank you for the reply. My Captivate 2019 version is 11.5.5.553. I agree that an advanced action would solve my issue. Any assistance on how to start the advanced (conditional) action would be highly appreciated. Basically, IF the answer submitted is incorrect for the drag and drop, I want the drag objects to be reset (returned to original position) and the drop objects change state to "Normal." Otherwise, Continue.

OK, I still have that version as well.

I need some more information:

  • Is the D&D slide configured as Knowledge Check slide or as scored Quiz slide?
  • Are the states in the Drop Target InBuilt states or custom states.

For the second question: are you aware of the existense of InBuilt states both for drag sources and drop targets? Have a look at this old blog post:

Built in States for Drag&Drop objects - eLearning (adobe.com)

The D&D is configured as knowledge check and the drop targets are all custom multi state objects. When I click the Submit button, if the answer is wrong, the Drag Targets return to their original position, as I have Reset All selected for the D&D Actions. However, the Drop Targets retain their last state. Please show me how to do start an advanced action(s) that will reset the Drop Targets to their Normal state when Drag Targets are reset.

Since you are on that very stable version (best ever for me, and I use Captivate since almost 2 decades) an easy way may be to use the Reset action explained in this tutorial:

https://blog.lilybiri.com/replay-slash-reset-slide-2-captivate-tutorial

Or if you prefer a step-by-step

https://blog.lilybiri.com/replay-or-reset-slide

A KC slide is automatically reset completely when you leave the slide and revisit it. This is what I explain in this tutorial. It doesn't matter if you provided multiple attempts or not.

If you have only 1 attempt (which is not the case, from what I understand) you can use the Failure action with the command 'Change State.... Normal'. But if you have more than 1 and less than Infinite attempts, that will not work because the so-called 'Failure' action is in reality a Last Attempt action.

Greetings. Is there a "state" in the Drag and Drop interaction that will allow a multi state drop object to return to the Normal state when the drag target is removed?

In my first answer I offered you the in-depth article about the InBuilt states for both drag sources and drop targets. That post also specifies when those states appear, under which circumstances. There is no event linked with 'removing a drag source' (I think drag target was a typo?), so you cannot use an action like is possible with Object actions for individual drags by the learner.

Thank you again. That article was indeed the most comprehensive I had even seen on D&D states. The movie was very illustrative. Do you have the project file available for download? I'd love to have it as a reference, if possible.

No, I have given too much freely in my blog posts. Result is that I am banned from Adobe conferences, that other 'experts' steal my ideas (and monetize them) and that multiple invoices remain unpaid.  And stupid me, my vow not to help with the new Captivate. have already broken it. Result: some of the proposed workarounds are now used by... Sorry, will not tell.  It is never wise as a female to be an expert in a society dominated by males.

You are so kind and always willing to assist many of us struggling Captivate users. Personally, I don't have much time to troubleshoot problems in Captivate. It is much easier to hire an expert to get the issue(s) resolved. I can then deconstruct the project file(s) to better understand. I'll be in touch very shorly. Thanks so much.
