Captivate File Conversion - MOV to FLV

Hello!  I am trying to upload videos to the LMS however in the conversion from file type MOV to FLV the video is being cut off on the left and right edges.  My videos are a combination of an MP4 (Introduction) and M4V (GoToMeeting Recording) that were merged creating an MOV.  It was brought to my attention that I recorded the MP4 and M4V videos in two different screen resolutions resulting in some black edges on my introduction piece.  That shows when I view the MOV and I can live with that.  After inserting them into a project and forced to convert the MOV to and FLV file, the first slide no longer has the black edges however the second part which is the software simulation portion is now cut off on the left and right edges.  It is enough to where the lesson is no longer beneficial.  I do not have time to record the 34 videos over in the same resolution and wondered if you knew a way to convert these files without cutting the edges off?  We are in a time crunch to figure this out because clients are waiting for our videos to be uploaded in the LMS.

Adobe has a tool called the Adobe Media Encoder which will handle the job of converting to a common format, resolution is another issue! (I think we got our license with Adobe eLearning Suite, so I'm not sure how its licensed now.)

My recommendation is that you go back to the source of the files, rather than performing a conversion on a converted file.

The old version (CS6) of the Adobe Media Encoder is packed with the Captivate license. The most recent version doesn't allow conversion to FLV anymore.

    HI donovan,

Wow.. I can't imagine what kind of "quality hit" the videos are taking with all this re-sampling. I can't offer a Captivate based solution as the video editor in Captivate is quite rudimentary,  but I can offer a work-around. I would suggest you re-record your introduction and make it its own video and then automatically launch the M4Vs after it stops playing. Your users won't notice the difference but you will avoid the aspect ratio discrepancies.

    Cheers
