I have tried several different settings to create a software simulation and all have failed, I get one screen shot and that is it. The video demo works, but then again, there are several screen capture prograns that can do that.
Is this normal the software sim doesn;t work? I get one screen shot when doing several task and on one try I got just three screen shots, one per slide, with no click box or anything. On preview it would just show each slide for a few seconds, then advance to the next one with no interaction possible.

This is on Windows 10 and Captivate 2019 (11.5.5.553)

Which mode did you choose? If you want to have interaction, you need to choose Training and/or Assessment, not only Demo as you probably have done up till now. I will always capture the 3 modes in one workflow. In Demo mode there is no interactivity, in the two other modes you get click boxes and Text Entry Boxes.
Make sure to record on the primary monitor if you use a multiple screen setup, and to do it with 'Run as administrator' setup.
Software simulations do work, I just finished a training where I created a combi 'Show, Try, Test' with the participants. Same configuration for OS and CP.

I am recording in automatic training mode. It works ok with manual mode (it gives me screen shots).

Using the automatic mode relies on Captivate being able to detect all screen 'events' and take a capture at that point. This relies on the programmers of the app being captured to code their creation in a way that Captivate expects. That isn't always the case nowadays, especially if you are talking about web apps.
If Captivate is having trouble reliably detecting when it should do a capture, then you need to switch to Manual capture mode to be sure of getting everything you want. This assumes you want to be able to have a slide-by-slide simulation format and perhaps need to build in interactivity.
However, if you are only really wanting to demonstrate how the task is performed, then Video Demo might be a better capture method because that does indeed capture everything.

OK, in that case: do you capture on the primary screen with 'Run as Administrator' settings? Which type of application do you record: is this application on your system or in the cloud?
