Clear Cache option in Adobe Captivate 5.5, Win 7.
I recently used this and realized that the folder was pointing to where all of my Captivate projects are being stored, which makes sense right?
When using the button, it said all the Captivate projects would be removed. Cool. I would gain back a lot of storage space from all the funky folders.
However, when using this option, every file was removed. Not just the funky folders and content. I could have lived with removing just the Captivate file types.
All my images, documents, audio files, text files, PowerPoints, etc. are just gone.
Checking the Recycle Bin... Nothing there.
Trying to find information on what just happened and how to fix this, I noted that you have to dig around on some of the responses to hear that all the files are removed.
The user posts said you can recover if you have a restore point. There was nothing put out by Adobe that I could easily find.
There was a tool to download, but the directions on how to do this were incomplete (once again users recommended things, but I could not get it to work). Not sure if this would help at this point, since there are no more files, including backups.
So are there any recommendations to recover these files?

Hi,
Clear Cache option, does not remove content from folder where your projects are stored, it instead removes the Cache files corresponding to your Capttivate project.
Usually, in My Documents -- My Adobe Captivate Project gets created after installation, as Default location for storing Published Project, while Adobe Captivate Cache Projects only holds the Cache for any project, if removed it would not remove any data, it would simply clear your Captivate Project's Cache.
Can you check -- My Documents for above two folder and open each one of them and let us know what contents do you see.
Also, can you explain how did you clear -- (Edit ---.> Preferences) or Manually removed from location.
What tool did you downloaded to recover, is that Adobe Captivate Cache Recovery Utility, that would help you recover the Source .CPTX file.
Thanks,
Anjaneai

I pointed the Preferences > General Settings > Project Cache to the folder where I was creating all of my content, not the default Adobe Captivate Cached Projects. I wanted one spot to monitor how much room was being used for the Captivate Projects.
I had about 25 projects that I had finished, but needed to retain all of the supporting files (wav, docx, pdf, jpg, gif, png, etc.). Instead of going through each folder individually, I did the Clear Cache assuming it would remove just the Captivate created content. Many of the files were not even used in the Captivate projects, but some were.
After clicking the Preferences > General Settings > Clear Cache, all of the folders and content are gone (except the one I had open at the time and one other folder with just a few mp3 files).
I have the dcache.air from Adobe, just figured out I have to install Adobe Air as well.
Unfortunately, all that is listed is the Captivate Project I had open at the time and the Clear Cache Application.
The Preferences > General Settings > Project Cache is now pointing back to the default folder.
The bonus is I now have an extra 5 gig on my hard drive, but I don't have any of the files for archiving and reusing for future presentations.

As an update, the military organization I am with does not allow Restore Points. Violates some reg and leads to attack/intrusion potential (although just using MS does this).
Anyway, the next 3 projects I was preparing to do are among the missing.
If you have any tricks to get them back, please let me know.
I have not turned off the machine. And although I can set up Restore Points, it would only be for a limited time and it won't save my lost work.
